For several weeks I have been thinking about putting a 6X POSP with a weaver base on my M1A, I know its pretty unconventional but i think it has potential.

The scope would be riding on an A.R.M.S. #18 mount.

So everyone out there doesnt hound me for thinking this way ..... I already have a Leupold Mark 4 3x9 sitting on A.R.M.S. #22's. Of course I love my Leupold on my rifle, but, i"m just thinking here.....

The question I have is has anyone else tried such a thing?

Also maybe a picture of a mounted POSP on a M1A?

Thanks

Welcome to THR.

I have been thinking about putting a 6X POSP with a weaver base on my M1A, I know its pretty unconventional but i think it has potential.

Why?

Thank you, the THR is a great site.

Simple, the BDC in the scope could be used with the right ammunition combination. With time I can develop a load that will follow the BDC.

Personally I like the reticle in the POSP scopes, they are simple and effective. And for hunting, I like having a scope that I don't mind bumping up in the woods.

Mitch: The scope choice is yours. Please bear in mind that you can't get a decent spot(cheek) weld on the M1A without going to an add on cheekpiece either strapped, or glued on. Original sights can't be used with a cheek piece mounted either. Not you original question, but just trying to help you out. :)

loadedround, thank you. I already have and use a strap on cheek rest with my Leupold, and I chose the ARMS 22's so i could take my glass off whenever I wanted to still use iron sights.

really im just curious what a M1A would look like with a weaver mounted POSP on it.
I havent been able to find pictures anywhere online, and none of my shooting buddies own a weaver POSP I could stick on top to see how it feels. Im sure Im not the only one who has thought about this before.

Does anyone have a picture?

Im not big on pics but I have an M1a and a 8X POSP weaver. I have looked at this scope on a few rigs and am pretty sure it would be very high in this case. The weaver mount POSP is "super high" to begin with. I have a Bassett mount with a Leup. Vx3 10X sitting in medium PRW rings (maybe they are lows I can't remember.) anyway the lower the better on an M1a. Now if you must mount the russian scope on there, I can't see any reason it wouldn't work. It just would look odd (subjective) and be high.

I appreciate the info about the scopes sitting high, I have not personally handled one of the weaver versions and that is good stuff to know. However I dont think it would be as much of an issue with an ARMS mount since it sits lower than the Bassett mounts.

That IOR 6x does seem like a nice scope, I wasn't aware of it until just now. The thing is I'm looking for more of a "beater" scope, something I can abuse a little and not feel bad about scratching and dinging. I still think the POSP has potential.

any input appreciated
