So I made a newbie mistake a couple years ago and bought a Cabelas XT 1500 digital scale. It's an incredible POS...if you try trickling powder into the pan the software corrects the sensor and simply keeps adjusting upward until the TARE is as much as a full grain off and you have to reset the scale. Because of this, I'm looking to switch.

This time I've done my research and it looks like the PACT has the best reputation out there. Does anybody have a better recomendation? I do like the option to add an automatic charge system as I plan to buy a benchrest rifle and start loading ultra-precision stuff in the foreseeable future.

Minnesota, I don't know about the scale you have but I have a pact and in the instructions it directs you to dump at least 10 grains (I believe) at first and then adjust from there either up or down. It needs that much to more or less get it working or calibrated or "woke up". If you are trickling from the start it could be your problem.

Later,,,,I checked my instruction manual for the pact and I was wrong about the amount. Instead of 10 grains it calls for .5 or 1/2 of a grain in order to disable the Auto Tare.

I use the RCBS Range Master 750 with no problems. Also you probably couldn't go wrong with the Dillon.

I bought the RCBS Chargemaster 1500 to replace my junky cheapo Hornady scale. I got it on sale for about $140 and it has performed flawlessly for me. I didn't buy the automatic powder dispenser at the time to go along with it, figuring I could do that later on. I'm thinking of getting that option now. I know Lyman has a combo scale/dispenser but I hear it's real slow. I see that Hornady has a digital scale/dispenser combo that is also getting good reviews.

Gor a scale only, I know Brian Enos has one for about $80 that people say good things about.

All these digital scales are made overseas though and the big boys just slap their names on them, so you really can't go by the old reputations in this field.
