Has anyone tried using a 45 ACP Lee Carbide Crime Die in a Dillion 650 press? In the Lee instructions it says screw die in until it touches case plate. Then turn Lee adjustment knob until it just makes contact w/ bullet, then turn one half or up to one full turn. It seemed to work OK. I disassembled the bullet and it does leave a healthy crimp in the bullet. I using 230gr RN 45 ACP, OAL is 1.255. Just wondering what experiences others have had.

I'm using the Lee FCD (Factory Crimp Die) in my 550 and it sounds like the setup is about the same. I think I'm running about 3/4 of of a turn (maybe a little less).

Have a good one,
Dave

Tom, if it is marking the bullet you are crimping way too hard. Just fold the case back to the bullet, @.471" at the case mouth after crimping.

Update

Hey thanks guys! I shot some loads tonight and they seemed just fine, not a bad little grouping.

I had been shooting 45 ACP 230gr fmj w/ 4.6 gr of WST, I switched to a 230gr fmj w/ 4.0 gr of Clays. What amazed me was the diference in the way the case was ejected. WST went back at to the right, the Clays went up to the ceiling then back down to my head. Weird? The Clays was much cleaner but the groups appeared similar.:)

That 4 Clays and 230 fmj is about the best ball load a guy can ever shoot! VERY soft and accurate.
