Didn't want to hijack a thread so starting a new one. Toprudder posted a quick way to change primer size in the dillon 550 press, I haven't tried it yet my concern is if there is a chance of changing the setting for the depth of the primer seating. It sure looks to be allot simpler than the way the manual says too and the way i've been doing it.
If its self setting for primer depth all i can say is thanks to Topudder

On the 550 the primer seating depth is controlled by the press operator. Tactile feedback through the handle indicates when the primer cup bottoms out in the casing.

Changing the primer size in this manner eliminates the need to precisely align the priming mechanism with the hole in the shellplate, as the priming mechanism never moves.

Looks like he owned an SD before the 550, that s the way you change them.

Put an unsized deprimed case in station one when you push back to make sure the anvil is fully seated, would be better than just your finger.

Great idea....thanks for posting the video from which I learned not only how to do an easy primer change but an easy cup change. Spent a lot of time recently just changing out a worn cup and trying to get the spring compressed properly. Never occurred to me that I could do it the way shown in the video.

No, never owned a SD. If that is how they work, you would think Dillon would have instructions for doing it this way on the 550. Instead, they tell you do to it the hard way.

Good idea. I think a casing with a spent primer might be better, though.

That is what I intended to write, not a lot of unsized deprimed cases at my house. The first mistake I made after 7:00 yesterday and 44 minutes is almost a record, if you ask my wife.

That's really a great idea Toprudder!!! I believe though, in my case (Brass feeder installed, haven't looked) it won't work because of setup interference.

I'll have to look at this tomorrow. But truely a good idea. Cudos!!!

Will do. Didn't get a chance this weekend to peek at it but maybe someitme during the week. "MAY" still have room to access the set screw form the side. Have to check it.
