I just got a used 550 and wondering what changes were made to arrive at the 550B.

The 550B added the "fail-safe" powder system and the low warning primer system. Both items available from Dillon as accessories. Otherwise the 550 and the 550B presses are identical. Add the two accessories and you have a 550B.:)

Another thank you!
I bought a used 550 to go with my 550b, and have been puling my hair out trying to find differences. It must have been modified to 550b specs.
Now I have to find another escuse for this shiny spot on my formerly warm head.

I thought I had a 550 because the press itself is stamped with just 550. I then noticed the manual and instr video were printed 550B. I called Dillon and they said the B came out about 15 years ago, maybe longer.

Mine was sold in 1997...Im pretty sure its a B. It does have the primer warning sys and fail safe powder measure. All my coinfusion was because the press itself does not have the B stamped on it.

Thanks again everybody.

Guys, I have never seen a Dillon press stamped "550B" even the new ones. I would imagine that Dillon would have to change the mold to include the "B".
