I have a Dillon 550b and I am having trouble with the spent primer chute not opening often. It appears that the catcher pin is bent. Will any other type of cotter pin work or do I need to get replacements from Dillon
The cotter pin is super soft and prone to bending. Replace it with a piece of wire and forget about it after that. Diameter is of no consequence as long as it is less than the hole. Bend on end, insert and bend the other end Don't make the bends too close to the chute.
You can also glue a small magnet near the bottom of the fixed portion of the chute. This will keep the chute closed until the ram is lowered and the chute is above the primer cup.
These two modifications keep the primers going into the primer cup and not on the floor.
