Dirty Rim Fire ammo!

I just cleaned the chambers out on my Single Six ( second time in 2 wks and about 35 rounds) and gave the barrel a scrub too.
Man Remington Gold Solid Points is dirty stuff! Smokes like hell and the chambers get so dirty that extraction and loading gets tight quick!
I dunno if they changed the bullet Lube or what?
I wonder how much this affects accuracy?

Yeah...they are pretty sooty.
I fired my last round of those a little more than 12 years ago and have never looked back. I finally got tired of getting sprayed in the face!

I fired my last round of Remington .22 ammo 38 years ago and never looked back. Remington never worked in anything I put it in.

Augila is another dirty ammo. After shooting it, my receiver looked like someone dumped sand in it. Although, it did feed and fire every time.

I don't really care for any Remington ammo. The dadgum powders to cheap. Found this out in one of my 12 guage's and 22's. It may be cheap but I ain't feeding my guns their ammo.

Try something else. All rimfires will show a preference for certain loads and there will always be loads they do not like. Personally, I burn up thousands upon thousands of GB's every year and wouldn't if they didn't work in the vast majority of my two dozen guns. Especially my Single Six.

Hop over to Rimfire Central and take note what they think of Remington ammo, Golden Bullet or no. Personally I kept away from Remington ammo for the last 10/15 years because of all the FTF and how dirty it was. But to each his own. YMMV

I had an entire case of Golden Bullet bulk (6,000 rounds) that I bought back in '07, never had any noteworthy trouble with the ammo. However, it is more expensive than Federal these days, so I now shoot the Federal stuff. It also works fine.

I've put almost 3000 rounds of RGB through my Neos and had nary a problem. I like it. Someday I should probably try another brand, but RGBs are cheap and available everywhere. Until I can't I'll probably stick with them. I like Yellowjackets in my bolt gun too.

Thunderbolts, on the other hand are disgusting. They're dirty, smell bad and (IMHO) less accurate than other brands of rimfire ammo. Perhaps this is what gives Remington ammo (rimfire at least) at bad reputation?

A technician with Remington sent me a 'pm' where he stated that Rem. is changing this ammo.
Recently this was a THR General or Rifle topic.

My question is why every other rd. puffs gas in your face, using the very old Savage .22?
With other ammo this almost never happens, and never with Federal or Win.

What causes this gas escape?

I gave up on Remington rimfire ammo some time back; way too many duds, misfires, and poorly assembled cartridges. When I did have some of it to actually fire, it was pretty dirty stuff and the accuracy was rather poor. The cleanest (and most accurate), rimfire ammo I use is Wolf Match Target.

I stopped using Remmington ammo when Federal became cheaper and my 22 liked it better. Plus I got on to CCI Ammo and I use it for hunting.

I use remmy shorts and they are good.

Rimfires are strange creatures. All of mine refuse to have anything to do with Remington Golden Bullets and Thunderbolts. However my brothers High Standard model B seems to exclusively prefer golden bullets :/. I for one am totally sold on CCI Blazers and have used them with a great degree of success in all of my rimfires. With that being said it's still bulk ammo in the end and as they say it is what it is.

I have a couple of .22s that are finnicky but in general they will shoot just about anything. I bought a Phoneix 22 a few weeks ago for S&G and it shoots the Rem bulk just fine as well as Blazer and WWB. Don't currently have any Winchester to compare. Virtually all of the bullets have a different shape and I would blame that for many of the misfires.

I regularly shoot 8-10 .22s in a given week from the Phoenix to a Buckmark to a MK11, to a Cobra SNS to an old 10-22, a new 10-22, an old Rem semi, an old Rem pump, a Stevens ss, and two different inherited lever guns. I have never had an ammo that gives me a lot of FTFs but occasionally see some FTEs. I do not break down each of my guns after every session but I do brush the barrel, swab, and do a general wipe down.

I have a scab on my right finger right now from re-loading all the darned magazines last night. I have three reloaders but none of them were at home last night I am headed to the airport tonight and I wonder what will happen if they decide to check me for explosive residue after around 500 rounds yesterday?

My wife's Mosquito likes the Golden bulk just fine. Do get a few duds. She only goes through a hunnert or so rounds a session though and I clean the pistol after every range session.

"Thunderpig" (bolt") literally blows gas in your face on every other round.

No exaggeration here-I wish that it were.

I used up my supply of Remington rimfire ammo about two years ago and have not bought any since. It was the only brand that I could count on to consistently have duds in every box. It was so bad even my local WalMart stopped stocking it.

Ignition...I don't have a theory or an answer why the Rem 22LR Golden Bullet type ammo blows gas and debris back in your face, only that it does so in all three of my 10/22 and my Ruger MKIII. Very aggravating, has caused me to switch to Winchester and CCI ammo.

It is overall shameful that the ammo is made in the plant in Lonoke Ark in my home state. The Centerfire ammo is still great but other than the shorts I don't buy any of their ammo anymore.

If I remember correctly, aren't the T'bolts both a "truncated cone" type bullet as well as a hypervelocity load?

That may be the reasons for both the accuracy problems as well as the smell.

I bought a batch of Remington Thunderbolt .22 recently.

Awful ammo ... got fed up with misfires and duds plus I found it fouled my 10.22 more so than any other ammo I have used.

Mind you it was cheep so I guess 'you get what you pay for!'
