Disappointed in my purchase of receivers 'on sale'.....

I did speak to a Brownells rep. She offered to start a return but couldn't offer any details or elaborate about the overwhelmingly obvious shenanigans going on in their FFL/shipping dept.

What shennanigans? If you want to point fingers...point them at Aero Precision. Brownells is trying to make it right.

I can't imagine many retailers do quality control

Making it right in my mind, is not simply accepting back the turd that you knowingly sent out. Either someone at Brownells made a large purchase of 2nds from Aero, and decided on their own to label them as they see fit... or I simply got receivers that were already returned prior, by a previous ''unhappy customer that was fully satisfied in the end by our unconditional money back guarantee''.... at which point the receivers they returned are simply put right back into inventory, and sent to me after I purchase them 'on sale'.

These receivers had been on sale for way too long for me to be getting a serial spread like that. All of which adds up to ''guaranteed shenanigans'' on behalf of Brownells, and ''possibly shenanigans, but highly unlikely'' on behalf of Aero.

.... another option,

Pack em up with bubble wrap. Load all three into a USPS flat rate box, (box free, shipping under $13), and ship them or have your FFL ship them to my FFL.

Of course you've gotta price em as tho they are the "turds" you believe them to be.

PM me if interested. ;)

I'd still blame Aero, since they are the manufacturer and should have their own QC. Brownells just has a staff of people picking parts out of bins and boxing them up to you so I doubt they are inspecting every single part.

Recently from Brownells I bought a Mini14 handguard and the retention clip was so sloppy fitted the handguard wouldn't stay on. Contacted them and got an exchanged part (but they first wanted me to pay to ship it back, and I insisted they just make it right at no additional expense to me, which they eventually did).

I'd tell them to send you a replacement lower that is defect free, or a refund.
Or buy a Spikes lower at a gun show that you can inspect personally, or pay extra for a consistently good manufacturer like Mega or such.

Brownells isn't final QC. Should this have been caught at Brownells sure, but this is Aero's doing and they do have a history of being shoddy at times.

If all important dimensions are correct, what's the big deal? I mean, seriously, are we shooters here or do we play dress up with our guns?

It's not a matter of "playing dress-up", it's the fact that the OP got a poorly finished product. He might assemble it only to find the mag well is machined too tight so the mags won't drop free. There are too many competitors putting out quality AR products to accept sub-par work even if it's cosmetic.

A forge line not ground down is not the same thing as out-of-spec machining or misplaced holes. All I know of this receiver is this line. What's wrong with the rest of it? The exhaust manifold on my brother-in-law's Audi shows casting lines yet the car retains its performance. If the rifle assembled is accurate and reliable, how does this lack of cosmetic machining matter?

I've got several Aero lowers that all have that line to slightly varied degrees. All purchased from Brownell's over 2 years or so. I'm not one to tell someone what they should accept or expect from something they purchase. What I can say is that prior to this post I never once gave it a second thought. I noticed they were there when I installed the grips but it hasn't affected function one bit, nor does it cause me pause for concern. I have had really good experience with both Aero Precision and Brownell's both so I am sure that they will help you out with whatever it is you want. I get where you're coming from though, certain aesthetic things will get me irritated every time I see that thing. If this is your thing then send it back.

Manifold casting lines have zero effect on the car's looks, but would you accept a poorly molded grill on a new car? Doesn't affect the car's performance, but it still looks like crap.
And if he doesn't use a high backstrap grip then I'm sure that casting line will feel great!
