Disappointed in S&W

Did I get the nickname's origin out of the Old Fuffster, for all to see . I was just going for a laugh. For my .02$, I needed a couple of screws for my mod 13 and S+W sent them out no charge.

The cold hard truth is that you purchased an unwarranted product... a 30 year old unwarranted product... and S&W is offering to fix it for a reasonable fee. I think they are being fair.

"Unfired" or not, a HELL of a lot can happen to a gun in 30 years, and S&W has no way to verify your story.

Seeing as the equivalent new production gun can be had for a reasonable fee, I assume that you purchased a 30 year old gun out of some sense of nostalgia... Your case illustrates the FACT that the S&W "of your grandfather" was NOT at all infallible. The S&W of today needs to sell TODAYS guns to make money and stay in business (you know... so the workers can feed their families?)

I wish I could jump on the Smith bashing band wagon... but the truth of the matter is that if you had purchased a new gun from the new company you would have had a working gun back in your hands long ago, and for free.

This is why I only buy S&W from my childhood in the late 60s and 70s or earlier. When they took the gunsmiths out of the factory they killed CRAFTMANSHIP! I have owned several guns from the by gone era where actions where as smooth as butter and fit and finish was a true art.

Good comments all. Lessons learned on my part about what I should and shouldn't expect from the manufacturer and the old axiom of buyer be ware is also true.

Like I said, I asked they answered and I paid, I will still buy pre-ILS S&W snubbie's when I see them.

Thanks for your comments.

Next time find a gunsmith.
Replacement bolts are about $17 each my cost and replacement with internal cleaning and fitting is $30.
You won't pay shipping to a local gunsmith either.
Most gunsmiths who have been doing the work for a number of years have worked on older Smiths fairly regular.
The Bangor Punta guns are simply horrible when it comes to parts fit.

Since it has never been fired there is a good posibility that the original factory lubrication has gummed up and is causing the cylinder catch to fail to release and return to it's locking posistion. Give the gun a complete cleaning and lubrication and see if that might solve your problem.
