Ive posted a previous thread relating to this problem but just yesterday I got some really disappointing information. The problem is that there is a nice shooting facility not far from me and my dad and I only got to go there once but I really enjoyed it.

When we decided to go back we found out that it had been temporarily closed down for zoning problems. Thanks to a fellow THR user I found a news article that said that the facility had until june 30 to make proper changes before they could reopen. This facility is a shooting range but it also has a hunting ground section/area, both of these are owned by the same owner.

Well giving the actual shooting range a call, I just kept getting a busy signal. Next I gave the hunting preserve a phone call and the lady there told me that it would reopen some time in the fall . Some time in the fall? I thought that it would reopen within a month or to. Well this really ticks me off:fire:. Well I guess this is just my rant for the day but its a real shame.

(p.s this range is in south florida and it is called "south florida shooting sports")

This is actually an important concern. Tom Gresham was talking about this this week, how city councils who are anti gun, OR are vulnerable to pressure from anti gun groups, are using zoning laws and other regulations to shut down ranges. Examples he mentioned included were failure to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, failure to comply with various environmental laws or failure to DOCUMENT compliance correctly. An idea that jumped into my mind was OSHA coming into a range and nailing them for not having their MSDS file complete and up to date.

Remember, if there is nowhere to shoot, fewer people buy guns or support gun ownership.

Yes this is one of many ways they are getting us. You know they killed American heavy industry in the same sort of indirect ways.

Figure also on gun ranges and gun clubs being lawsuited to death. I can even see anti-gunners joining gun groups to undermine them. "I am a member of this gun group and I am being harassed, or I slipped and fell, or I am discriminated against, or I must let the children know of the lead we are placing in the environment."

Rather underhanded. But all by the play book. I suspect they will win.

A gun club I belong to in Redmond, Oregon, is being forced to move. At the time that it was established, it was on the outskirts of town. But like all things these days, it's no longer on the outskirts: the airport is now just across the road, and the city (which owns the land and leases it to the club) wants to sell it for expansion. The problem is that the club has been having all sorts of difficulty in moving because of housing and business sprawl, even out in the boonies -- and trust me, we are talking about The Boonies here.

A U.S. Senator is involved in negotiations with the neighboring Bureau of Land Management to help secure an appropriate site, but the expected decision time is at least 5 years. It now appears that the club will be forced to relocate, at least temporarily, more than 30 miles away in a spot where the nearest utilities are located more than four miles away from the property in question.

I suspect that over time, this will become a problem that we will see again and again as urban sprawl continues unchecked. Just as no one wants to live next to horses and cows and pigs and factories and industrial parks and you name it, no one wants to live next to a gun club, either.

Here in TN, they shut down our sporting clays range because of some B.S. noise ordianance that was put into effect years after the facility was opened.

Yep . .. .that is J&R Outfitters on Fox Brown rd in Indiantown.
I share in the disappointment, as this was the closest outside range where you can use your own ammo.

Palm Beach and Martin County gun ranges are all in collusion and force shooters to use range ammo, which are sold at ridiculous markups. Many of the ranges are crappy to say the least, and then to have to pay exhorbitant prices for 'range' ammo, just adds insult to injury.

I have stopped going to local ranges and my next visit will be an hour + drive up to Sebastian, where they at least have a public outdoor range.

Obviously our own counties are not interested in our money.

Do you have phone or website for them? I live in Ft. Lauderdale but my fiancee's family lives in Vero Beach. I have very limited time to shoot in Ft. Lauderdale since I work like a dog, but at holidays and other long weekends, we may spend in Vero. Great opportunity to shoot. Any other recommendations in the Vero area to shoot long guns? I have Markham park in Broward. Nice range, 100 yard max though.

The part that really bites is the fact that it was only my first time shooting there and my first time trying skeet shooting or clay shooting(I dont know what it was called exactly). The point is that I tried it and the insturctor showed me all the proper procedures and such. It was a great experience for me and the whole facility seemed very safe and clean. The staff seemed very helpful to new shooters, a characteristic that I am afraid that I wont find at other skeet ranges:(. Go figure after my first expereince my dad invested in new shooting gear such as ear protection, eye protection, etc.:banghead:
