I have a 91/30 Mosin I shoot all the time for plinking because ammo is so cheap. Anyways when I got the gun the bolt handle was definitely darker than the rest of the bolt. Also, there are a couple small rust spots on a few parts of the bolt. I have seen lots of Mosins with shiny bolts and would mine to be like that too. I am looking for relatively low cost solutions to shine the old bolt up. It functions flawlessly and I always clean the corrosive salts after firing the surplus ammo. Thanks in advance.

A rag, some metal polish , and some elbow grease should do it.

Look for Flitz, Semichrome, mag wheel polish, or chrome polish.

All kinds of ways to clean them up. 0000 steel wool with oil works to. I've used a sharpening stone to clean up damage or even 600 grit paper with oil and go back over it with something as mentioned above.

The darkening of the bolt handle is not so much the corrosive salts in the powder ot primers.
It is from the Salt in Sweat.
Once polished and oiled it should stay shiny if you wipe ot down after shooting ot handling the gun.

I tried the 0000 steel wool last night with oil and it cleaned up really nice. Tonight I think I may try to polish it to make it extra shiny. Thanks for all the tips everyone. Its already looking better than I thought I would be able to get it!
