Hey guys, I'm about to do a mod on one of my ARs and I just wanted to see if any of you have done anything similar. I'm posting this because I'm just not sure if everything will fit and I don't want to go ordering parts without knowing.

I want to put together a 14.5" upper with a midlength gas system. My plan is to use a low profile gas block so that I can use MOE rifle length handguards. I'm going to use a clamp on flip up front sight assembly to hold the handguards on. I'm just not sure if I'll have enough room between the handguards and the flash hider for the flip up on a 14.5" barrel.

I'd appeciate any info.

Thanks.

Rifle length handguards are 12" long. So with a 14.5" barrel (measured from the breechface!), I don't think it will work. Even 16" Dissipators don't have much barrel left after the front sight base. How long is the flip sight you want to use?

Thanks for the info guys. I may just go with a 16" barrel just to make sure. At least that way, I won't have to worry about pinning the muzzle device.

IIRC, the 13.2" tube was done in order to give the same sight radius as a rifle length handguard (using a rail mounted front sight). Looking at Zak's picture, it looks like it may be doable after all (rifle length handguard and front sight on a 14.5" barrel); but it will definitely be a tight fit. I guess the big question would be whether your clamp flip front is longer than 1.2" with handguard cap?
