Ok so I go hunting and go pick up
My father in law (30 min drive) and as soon as we get in the woods the area sounds off with coyotes! Apparently everywhere in the area. Not there to coyote hunt only squirrels so I see three and shoot at three and MISS all three! So i get aggravated and retire to the vehicle where I decide to try my coyote call (distress rabbit) since I heard so many in the area early and what do I call in?
Squirrels, they come from everywhere to apparently watch the show! I even had one hop casually down the road toward me and my vehicle until i decided to try my aim again (#4) which I missed again! He didnt even sprint away! He casually hopped back up the road and into the weeds. He was my last attempt at shooting a squirrel that day but the point is.......they kept coming even after being shot at to see what was happening with the "distressed rabbit".

Anybody else ever have anything like this happen?

Oh after my father in law got back i shot a
Few guns I brought with me for fun including the 22 and yep the scope must have gotten bumped on the way down or at some point between the previous hunt and this one because it was shooting way LOW, had to adjust. Thats wht i get for not checkin it BEFORE i went hunting

bucks right, they both make the baby crying type of noise I bet you pitch was off and you sounded like a squirrel, the good news is coyotes eat squirrels too.

I have had doe deer come barreling in on two occasions while using rabbit distress call. The first time in some thick woods, after the doe came in, a very small fawn came right up to me. I didn't know what was coming, the doe made a lot of noise crashing through the brush, and I quickly felt undergunned carrying a .22. Last time I went calling with a .22.

Had a buddy playing calls for coyotes around 2-3am or so, they got spooked as they heard crashing all around them after a while although couldn't see anything. A herd of deer came through presumably to see what was going on, including some quite large bucks.

Sounds like I'm going to have to start taking my rabbit distress call out more often :D , only closs encounter I had to something like this was one night using hog distress call, young cow come barreling through the woodline, stopped about 25 or 30 yards from me, then just stopped and stared at me, kinda like "hey, you weren't what I was expecting", at least thats what was going through my mind

Sounded like alot of fun.

If you missed 4 times, I would suggest you check your scope to see it's zeroed in or not.:D

I had the same thing happen to me once many years ago. I was just out of high school and decided to try my hand at coyote hunting. I had access to some overgrown pasture land here in North Texas close to my folk's place and there were coyotes all over the place. Often I'd see them crossing the road when I'd walk out to the mailbox and hear them singing almost every evening.

So I bought a wounded rabbit mouth call and went out with my Remington 870 12 gauge loaded with #4 buckshot. I found a likely looking spot and started calling. After a call or two, I heard a furious chattering off in the woods. I called again and the chattering started up even closer! Afer another call, I saw a big fox squirrel running through the trees towards me, chattering as he came.
I called again and he finally stopped in the tree above me chattering furiously and shaking limb he was on as hard as he could. He was the fiercest squirrel I've ever seen and pretty impressive in a squirrely way. Pretty funny too. I thought about shooting him, but with #4 buck, there wouldn't be much left of him. Also I was impressed with how brave the little fella was and didn't have the heart to shoot him. So I stayed quiet and he eventually went away.

Never did call in a coyote with that call.

Years ago while bow-hunting I watched a Goshawk take a large Fox squirrel. It screamed like a predator call for the few minutes it took the hawk to subdue it on the ground. The hawk then proceeded to eat the squirrel on the ground and was continuously harasser by hoards of other squirrels Grey and Fox that came outta the woodwork. Wasn't till the hawk consumed enough of the squirrel to be able to fly off with it that the commotion subsided. Meanwhile the commotion brought in a bunch of crows that added to the sound level as they too harassed their mortal enemy. Even after the hawk flew off you could hear the crows continue to follow it thru the woods and harass it.
