My Glock 24 P now has well over 5000 rounds through it and the porting has blasted off a portion of the finish on the slide as well as having a few scratches here and there. I was wanting to strip it down and re-finish it purely for looks and wanted to know what you folks would recommend for a home remedy.

I have access to an airbrush, kitchen oven, full paint gun, sicla sand and blaster, as well as regular air, power, and hand tools.

I know a lot of people like Gunkote and have had good results. Any other suggestions?

Since it's now set up as a "race" gun I was thinking of doing something a bit flashy. I'll likely redo the dot scope to match since I've done some grinding on it but I'm not sure how well it will stand the heat. If I take the battery out I can't imagine the 200* (IIRC) for Gunkote would hurt it. Certainly not as much as the grinding wheel did. ;)

I would not bake the scope, I think that is just asking for trouble. GunKote comes in a variety of colors, so going wild with your race gun should not be a problem.

Ya, I got inspired when someone posted some examples of Gunkoted weapons on Glocktalk.

As for the scope, I'm not TOO worried about it because it's just a cheap BSA that's been acting up anyway. I was surprised that it didn't die when I took it to the bench grinder. It got too hot to touch but still held 0 even after all that vibration, heat, and re-mounting.

In my impatience I managed to goober up the "shadow black" rubberized coating in a spot in addition to what I was working on. So baking it for a while at a relatively low temp probably can't help but if I kill it I'll chalk it up to experience and go back to using my excellent double-ring iron sights.

kg has a air dry coating called scope coat.air cure in 24 hours, dura coat works for scope's all well,it is not tough enough for repeted handeling or abuse.i have about 20 different colors of the kg coating,so far it's been worth having the stuff.all i need is someone that can air brush good enough to try to get some other work for this stuff.
