What do you think of them?

What KIND or model do you have? What caliber?

I am VERY interested in these single action revolvers.

I have NOT seen one of these in person... yet!

Thanks for any or all information.

Catherine

If you've got the money, they've got the (very good) guns. When I sold my Colts I decided I was not willing to pay but so much, and the better Italian clones satisfy me. But, there is no denying that USFA makes as fine a SAA replica as you can buy. I have never even heard of a dissatisfied customer.

Sort of. Mine has just arrived at my dealer and I've not picked it up yet. I've wanted a single action for a while and USFA has a great deal on their site for a dual chambering. I got a SAA with 45lc/45acp. I already shoot a lot of acp and with ammo prices it seemed the way to go. I hope to pick it up the next couple days and post some impressions/pics. From what I've read they are a quality firearm.

Hey Catherine : :)

As stated by Virginian; the clones are a better buy these days. But, the Colt name just sounds better. ;)

Here is my wife's Colt .22 Peacemaker she's had for over 30 years, and lots of use. Only repair was a replaced a lost cylinder rod stop pin.

Funny thing about that little pin. Took the gun in to one gunsmith, he said they didn't make those pins anymore, and the gun was useless. Offered to trade me something for it.

Went down the road to another gunsmith. He had a bin full of those pins, said they were common. Put one in for me, and charged me $1.

Yes, I own a USFA, actually I believe they were called U.S. Patent Firearms when I bought mine. I don't recall a specific model name, but I know it's not the Rodeo or the Cowboy...I'm pretty sure they weren't making those when I purchased mine. Mine's just a relatively ordinary 7.5 in. with the "Old Armoury Bone case & Dome blue" finish in .45 Colt. It's a great shooter, and I'd love to have another, but since I have 2 sequentially numbered Colts and a Ruger Vaquero (all 3 of which are .45 ACP/.45 Colt) besides, it has been a low priority. I guess their current deal would be a good reason to get one now.

But yes, they seem to be fantastic guns. Too bad the price has gone up quite a bit...but I guess everything has.

Tim

Thank you very much for the information!

If any of you have read me... you know that I absolutely ADORE my Ruger single action revolvers, S&W D/A revolvers, etc.

That COLT is a BEAUTIFUL firearm and thanks for posting the picture here.

I LOVE s/a revolvers the MOST!

Catherine

Picked my USFA up last night - here's some somewhat poor pics - but it will give an idea - I'm very pleased with it.

Does Turnbull count?

It's a basic Turnbull Cowboy Classic which I think (not sure) is the equivalent of USFA's pre-war. CC hammer and Carbona blue. 4-3/4 in .45 Colt. All USFA with the exception of the Turnbull serial number.

Woo hoo!

Ohhhhh!

One sweet looking revolver! Woo hoo!

I love the case hardening on it along with the entire DEAL.

Catherine whose vice is S/A revolver lusting. Ha ha!

Catherine,

Thank you for the thread topic.

Everyone, thank you for sharing your experiences and pictures!

These have caught my eye and interest as well.
Just I have not gotten my hands on one to handle, and shoot.

SM, when next in the DFW area give a holler and we'll give the SAA-pattern things a work out.

They're way more fun to shoot than look at.

'specially this one:

Hawk,

You are most kind!
I will keep this in mind.

Good looking shootin' iron you got there!!

I get to shoot a single action "sometimes".
A few of the ladies I run with have these.
Old Rugers, and they really use these for farm/ranch/property duty.

Oh, they CCW these too.

My first one, bought new in the late 1990's, was from the U.S. Patent Firearms period, and is quite nice. My latest one, bought new in 2006, is absolutely superb. Both of these are what USFA simply calls the "Single Action." I have purchased four that were pre-owned, three of them the "China Camp" model, and one Sheriff's Model.

this one is several years old and a fine shooter. I did reduce the trigger pull somewhat by putting in a wire trigger /bolt spring.

Recently, I got a 7.5 inch SAA to go with the pictured Pre-War. It had a .009" gap and produced lower velocities than the older gun. I wonder if they have expanded their line to the point that quality control has declined.

Wow. Lots of really nice pictures in this thread.

I have a USFA Rodeo (the first edition, there's a Rodeo II out now). I really like it. It's in .45 Colt and has a case-colored hammer. It has a 5.5" barrel.

I don't have any pics, but it looks just like USFA's pics, only with a blued-looking hammer. The hammer bluing is not deep (see below).

I'm relatively inexperienced (only been shootin' about six months  ), but it seems pretty accurate and is a lot of fun to shoot. The trigger is pretty light and has almost no creep. The matte black finish is durable and not ugly (but not pretty). The cylinder has yet to show any drag marks, and locks up tight at full-cock.

The hammer is showing some slight finish wear on the sides due to dragging, but that's the worst thing I can say about the gun.

Now that their "Premium" SA prices are so low, I would definitely recommend spending the extra for the blue finish, if that's your cup of tea. Those guns are beautiful.

Hello, I own a pair of custom ordered USFA's. I ordered mine in the old model frame or some call black powder frame. Mine are blued with case colored hardened frames & hammers, they have 5 1/2 barrels, also have the bulls eye ejectors. I wanted the checkered hard rubber/plastic grips instead of single piece wood grips, because I am going to use them for Cowboy action shooting. Which is why I wanted the wider square notch rear sight instead of the so called V slot rear sight.
I am quite happy with them, very well made and look vantastic. LM

The STI is beautiful, but what's with the grips?

A revolver of that caliber begs for something special.
