The .308 depriming pin broke off on either a crimped primer or a Berdan.

Shouldn't an RCBS .308 full-sizing die fit the Lee, knowing that the RCBS .303 British easily fits?

It's a shame that the protruding rod can not be loosened/removed from the brand-new Lee .308 neck-sizing die, in order to substitute a good depriming pin.
It has a different design:scrutiny: and there is No screw-on cap as with my other Lee dies.

Even with two wrenches and WD 40 lube, the narrow bolt on top (with the attached nut) won't loosen.

All standard reloading dies will interchange in all standard reloading presses.

I've never see a Lee die collet neck sizer or other wise that you couldn't take apart.

Even with two wrenches and WD 40 lube, the narrow bolt on top (with the attached nut) won't loosen.

Those little buggers can really be torqued down sometimes, unless it's cross threaded though it should come apart fairly easy. Try locking the die down into the press, use a good size adjustable wrench to hold the die body and a long boxed in wrench to turn the nut counter clockwise.

The decapping pin / sizing mandrel on the lee does come out, you just have to be the Hulk to get it. Before I got my vice I wound up putting the die on the ground with a crescent wrench on the die body, stepping on the wrench, and then using a wrench and cheater bar on the decapping collet. It was tighter than a lug nut put on with am air wrench. It does not need to be that tight when you put it back in. In fact, a looser nut will keep your decapping pin from breaking. Persevere! you can get it.

Get ahold of Lee and they should send you a replacement decapping pin for free. As mentioned above, the dies made in the last 30 years or so are all interchangeable as far as the outside thread dimensions go. The knurled knob on the top of the die should turn off that's how all my collet dies come apart. Call Lee if it will not come apart and they will tell you how it can be taken apart.

Thanks very much fellow shooters. Just wanted to verify that any make of die will fit the Lee press.

Could only find the two small pliars, but will continue the hunt for the larger tools.

IO - I had to use 2 6" wrenches and a lot of cussing to get my decapping pin out. i put the die on the table, one wrench on the body, the other on the decapping pin rentention nut. Pushed with my left hand (bottom of the die to the left) and pulled with my right... Wasn't easy.

Heh. Lee even says in their instructions that the collet holding that decapping pin is really tight. Pliers are not going to do the job.

As has been mentioned. Call or email Lee. They have awesome customer service and will send you a new decapping pin.

Worst case the pin is ~$3 from Factory Sales.

Because of the size of the rings on the RCBS dies you my have trouble with them fitting in the turret. I finally went to all Lee for that reason.

Yep, use a cresent wrench on the die and a box wrench on the nut with a little more force. It will come apart.

Use the right tool for the job and you'll always win the battle with over tightened nuts or bolts. Pliers don't get it done and only mangle the bolt/nut head making it even more difficult to remove.
