I saw there are a lot of people have a CCP. I am thinking about maybe I need it, but I want to make sure some questions before I apply it. I don’t want finally I find I got more trouble from it than I have it before.
1) If I have a CCP , that means I can legally carry a gun in my state’s somewhere but can’t show it, but if I can’t show it, how can I use it as a self defense weapon if I am under a necessary situation?
2) Suppose I can legally do self defense under a special situation, I create four situations below and I hope someone can tell me if I can use my gun do the self defense.
a) Someone come to my house and use a gun to point me or my family members.
b) Someone come to my house and use a weapon ( such as knife or other) to point me or my
family members.
c) Someone use a gun to point me or my family members in a public place.
d) Someone use a weapon to point me or my family members in a public place.
I like to know under what kind of situation my defense belongs to illegal or “ over-defense” if I already shot him, Of course I know a realistic incident maybe is much more complicated than these four situations.

Thanks!

They teach most of this in the class.

Basically the permit allows you to legally conceal a handgun in public.

The laws regarding defending your life and your family remain unchanged.

The difference between a self defense shooting with a permit and without
is being charged for the crime of not having a permit.

Those questions are best asked of: 1. an attorney, 2. the prosecutor for your area, 3. a representative of a carry organization. In that order.

Do some calling around, make an appt and talk with folks, finding out what they believe you can do and can't do.

Good luck!

Getting your permit is a personal decision, only you know if you are responsible enough.

As to question #1, its not illegal to present your firearm for self-defense, or it is an affirmative defense to justify your actions. If there is no justifiable self defense then displaying your firearm in a threatening manner is brandishing. Basically the other person committing a crime against you trumps displaying your weapon.

Defiantly check out packing.org and follow up the links that refer to your state’s laws. If you have further questions, consider contacting an attorney.

As far as when to draw a weapon and fire at another human being goes, I cannot answer that question. What I will say is this, I would only use deadly force against another person if I felt that my life (or the life of a loved) were in jeopardy and that my inaction would lead to either my death or the death of a loved one. Hopefully I will never be in such a situation, but if I am, I would much rather be armed than unarmed.

You should sign up for a concealed weapons class. I've taken one every time I've moved to a different state and learned something new in each one (as well as the local & state laws)...money very well spent.
