do i treat shooting a semi auto browning BAR 30-06 the same as a garand?

And by that I mean, is it better to shoot 150 grains instead of 180-220 grain bullets? Will it beat up the receiver? I have been reloading for my 30-06 and been using IMR4895 and a 150 Hornady SST bullet but have been wanting to load some heavier rounds for a brown bear hunt but am afraid i will damage my rifle.

No, a BAR short piston gas system opertes completely different the the Garand with the huge, heavy, long, & multi-pre-bent operating rod.

Browning makes no stipulation as to what bullet weights the BAR can safely use.

Other then to stated SAAMI standard pressure loads.

For reloading?
Avoid excessivly slow, or excessivly fast powders.
And stick to published reloading data.

And it will be no different then shooting factory loads in any bullet weight.

I would suggest though, that the old school 220 grain RN 30-06 bullet has been totally eclipsed by more modern 165 - 180 grain controlled expansion and / or bonded core bullets like the Nosler Partition, Barnes, etc.
