Hi All-

I just inspected my most used kydex holsters, and noticed scratches and wear on the inside. I draw hundreds of times per week training, so not surprising I guess. Have any of you actually had a kydex wear out to the point of unsafe, or fail to function? I would assume that unless it's cracked or something, they should last at least years of heavy use, with continued tightening as necessary right?

I can't think of a safety concern other than breaking.

Thanks,

Todd

I have a FIST ultra thin kydex holster that I've used almost daily for 15 years with my S&W 642 appendix carry. Two years ago it developed a 1/2 in crack in the top which I easily repaired with dollar store 1 time use mini tubes of super glue. For some reason super glue and kydex are very compatible together. It's almost like a weld. A little over a week ago I noticed my belt clip was loose and thought I just needed to tighten the mounting screws that adjust cant. However I noticed a major crack across the bottom of the holster where the barrel pushes through. I thought what the heck I'll try the super glue again and was amazed on how well it "welded" the crack closed. The holster is now like new and I will use it until it fails again if it does.

I used the holster on the right daily for a bit over 10 years. Its a Blade-Tech IWB I bought back when they first came out in the mid 90's. The holster on the left was a spare I bought in case I needed it, and was sold off later on.

Other than a small piece of the sweat guard breaking off, and having to replace the rubber loops a couple of times over the years, it really never had any other problems. I still have it, and while I no longer carry that Commander, the holster is as functional today as it was when new.

Ive found that kydex is a MUCH better deal than leather, and for a number of reasons. Longevity is just one of them.

Thanks guys. I started to get the feeling that they don't wear out much, based on the fact that I didn't get a response in the first couple days. It has been 11 days for this thread.
