I seem to recall having read somewhere that steel shot can damage a barrel (maybe it was a rifled barrel?). Does this apply unilaterally to all non-lead types of shot such as Hevi-Shot, Copper Slugs and Tungsten?

its is with the types of shot that isnt malleable(soft like lead). It can damage the older barrels that were not made with the idea that really hard shot would be used in them so the new types of shot can be harder than the barrel and damage it. I have also been told it is typical of double barrels to have thinner walls where the two barrels attach and hard shot can damage those also.

someone wil pry bring more knowledge than i have soon.

Newer guns and their chokes will say "steel shot rated" or close, something like that. Older guns I've retired from waterfowling. Bismuth will work on older guns, but I ain't got Bill Gate's money for ammo.

I've got many cases of steel shot through my old Mossberg and it's doing just fine, was made for steel as are most now days.
