"Do NOT Get a Weapon, OK?"

We have a "stand your ground" statute that enhanced our "make my day" statute as of last year.

Key words: stand your ground, not "chase him down"

You do realize that when someone breaks into your house, and tries to do you harm, you DO have the authority to hold them until police arrive, right?

And when that person gets away because the guy on the phone told you to let him, and your neighbours step up to apprehend him, it's kind of a pathetic thing to do if you go watch American Idol instead of helping them, like they did for you.

This is ridiculous! What is everybody now afraid that the vistim might hurt the criminal?

Of course. Show some compassion, please. Criminals work hard, have to pay for their own health insurance, and have to provide for their own retirement. Why should they also be exposed to the possibility of being hurt during the practice of their profession. We should applaud that dispatcher's obvious concern for the criminal's welfare and his insistence that the old woman not have the means to defend herself.

It's hard to understand the notion that women and the elderly have some right to live. Read The Brady Campaign web site and get your consciousness razed.

It appears to have been a real incident that took place about two and one-half years ago. The original poster didn't include the explanation of it that appears on the Second Amendment Sisters web site, though, so it's necessary to follow behind him for that context:

"Do NOT Get a Weapon, OK?"

On February 14 2005, Theresa G. (last name withheld) was inside her house in Oklahoma City when she heard commotion coming from the garage. When she went to investigate, she was startled to see her 83-year-old mother, Barbara, struggling with a strange man. Theresa quickly ran to her mother's aid, and managed to disarm the mugger of the knife he was carrying. When he tried to get back into a car with his accomplice, Theresa held on to him, determined to not let him get away. The driver began to pull away, and both Theresa and the mugger were dragged a bit of a distance before the car finally broke free. By that time, a neighbor had come out to help, and Theresa used her cell phone to call 911. Here is a recording of the actual call (address and phone number have been edited out):

Theresa's Call to Oklahoma City 911

With so many people here unwilling to contribute to supporting the NRA/ILA battles for issues of nationwide importance, or even to join the NRA, because they are offended by being asked for money I wonder where the NRA/ILA would get the resources to pursue a dispatcher in Oklahoma City--unless Mayor Bloomberg or some other wealthy anti Second Amendment leader would be gracious enough to donate the funds that gun owners won't provide.
