Do other "young" people have this happen too?

When I was younger it happened all the time - I always looked much younger than my age. While in the USN the only time I would get any service at a gunshop was if I was wearing my uniform. My attitude was simply "if I am old enough to die for the USA I should be able to get some damn service" Little did I know that at 18-21 I really didnt know squat about squat.... but with age (and the Gulf War) comes perspective.

I find myself telling my 19 year-old son all the time - "I know you think your a grown ass man but you havnt done squat yet, quit walking around like you have". He is a great kid - I would pick him a thousand times over if I had a choice in children - but his perspective is small - because he has not lived yet but wants to think he has.

and with age comes wisdom and more than likely a higher paycheck (if you do things right and get a little lucky)

hate to say this but in the sales world this makes a difference. sales people make a judgement as soon as someone walks in the door. they decided what type of buyer you are, if you are a buyer, or just a shopper. I do not care if you are a car salesman, gun salesman, or a financial salesman - you do it - I've done it -it happens all of the the world.

I am 21 and never had any problems with older people.
I always greet them when I come in the shop and ask them how they are doing.
and I always get a courteous reply back.
They let me look at any gun I wish in the store and I always ask nicely to take a look at it and if I may dry fire it.

My friend is almost 25 and acts like a 16 year old at the gun shop and makes the employees there nervous when he is there with me.He has very little knowledge on guns and bases every gun on a movie I taught him safe gun handling that he does not get problems when he handles guns.

I'm young and have a lot of tattoos, but I'm also pretty clean cut.
I collect C&R and modern firearms and I usually know more about the laws (and often in general) than many of the old condescending guys, but that never stops them from "challenging" me every chance they get.
Personally, I get excited when other people my age are into firearms because it means there is hope for the future, but some of the older guys really have a way of making you feel unwelcome just because you don't look a certain way.
If you're not a middle aged guy in hunting garb they think you're an idiot or a gangbanger or something. lol.
I have a low paying retail job (one very similar to retail gun sales and I wish it was gun sales haha) while I'm in college, I get passed up by sales guys sometimes. That is fine, I just take my business somewhere that wants my hard earned money :]
That is one thing I've learned from my current job. Never judge a book by the cover in sales.
A ratty, drunk, vagrant looking gentleman used to come into my old store and all the sales guys would jump on him, the new kids would be confused like "what is going on?". Little did they know that guy was far from a bum and always carried like $5,000 cash on him in his roller backpack and ALWAYS bought expensive stuff when he was there.

Firearms are for everyone. There are no party, social, economy, age, or racial divides.
That is just my opinion though...

Funny, that's my opinion too! I'm almost in the same boat as you!

"I dropped the mag, locked the slide back, flipped the takedown lever, pulled the trigger and let down the slide and took the whole thing apart right in front of them and set the pieces on the table for them. "

No one likes a wise ### punk kid. Now git on outa here and go play with your tiddly winks.

LOL, just kidding.

I remember I was in Tip's Hardware near Tuckerton Seaport (New Jersey) and the owner, the on site gunsmith and a customer were trying to figure out how to break down a springfield xd. I walked over and kindly said that I'd be happy to show them (I am NOT allowed to own handguns in NJ but my dad owns a few xd's and i've cleaned them and even duracoated one for him). All three looked like theyd seen a ghost and said "If we can't open it up you sure as hell can't" and he handed me the pistol. I dropped the mag, locked the slide back, flipped the takedown lever, pulled the trigger and let down the slide and took the whole thing apart right in front of them and set the pieces on the table for them. The customer was impressed, the shop owner laughing at the smith and the smith was in shock. Mind you the customer was in his forties and both men behind the counter were mid 70's.

The guy was a 70 year old gunsmith?? For who? Air Soft?
