Do used guns sell for used prices in your area?

I don't even bother looking at used guns anymore, usually people want more than they are worth. However, I've been offered to buy used guns for a pretty good price by people needing quick money. A few months ago a guy offered me an S&W 629 .44 mag with a scope (not sure the brand of scope) for 600$. That is a freaking steal but I didn't have the money at the time, and it wasn't really on my list of guns I wanted anyway. I know a guy who is always falling into great deals. The secret is knowing a lot of old rural folk.

And budgeting to always have a stash of cash on hand for just such an occasion.

;)

Usually resonable at stores. One local pawn shop used to ask MSRP, but with plenty of wiggle room, so you could talk them down to a decent price. Obviously desireable pistols that are out of production command higher prices. I know for while, used Series I Kimbers were selling for more than new Series IIs due to the issues with the safety and MIM breakage.

I dont even bother with armslist or a local paper anymore. Good and fair deals go pretty quick, the rest are overpriced.

For example, I listed a Stainless Series I Kimber for $600 firm, I think. The ad went up around 04:30, in less than 12 hours it was SPF, and two hours later I was minus one gun, but had the money to pay rent. Meanwhile similar guns were priced about $1000 (+/- $100).

Deals are out there if your patient.
I just picked up a S&W 3904 yesterday with just a tad of holster wear. Otherwise the gun looks like it was never used or shot.

Surprisingly it was sitting in a gun shop for cheap. I had to buy it.

Floridaguntrader is a very active place to find guns, and it works pretty much like a craigslist for gun stuff which I like, but you see the same thing there often with values and prices. I'm always surprised by the number of high-end guns there, floridians sure like spending money on guns I guess. I can't really say whether those prices are good because I can't dream of affording it, but the affordable stuff can still be a bit high.

I've been looking recently to see if I can pick up a steal on a post panic ar, but all I see are brand new/30 rds through the barrel type guns that don't really reflect the fact that brand new AR's are starting below $600. At same time I can't justify to myself paying full price for something I don't need. http://images.thehighroad.org/smilies/rolleyes.gif

I did get one good deal on there, and it was a great experience. The seller was a genuine gun guy and wasn't looking to make $, just thinning the collecting and passing along the savings. The one nice thing about private sales is you do save on taxes and fees. Those add like $40-50 (more on internet transfers) for a average gun, and top that with the $20-$75 off the person is offering, it does manage to save you a bill. It's easy to forget the pang you feel when the savings you thought you were getting shrinks and shrinks at the register until you actually go to the gun shop.

Even-so, I personally would just get it new or used-with-a-gurantee from a gun shop unless it was a significant savings.
