Do you guys use hold-over or click-in for PD or ground hog shooting?

Which way would you advise I practice?

I'm getting ready to order an Elite 4200 6x-24x Mil-dot scope for my Tactical20. But I admit, I'm not real experienced outside of the 100 yard firing range.

At the 100 yard range there isn't a whole lot of "hold-over" skills required. You just simply sight-in your new rifles and scope where you want the bullet to hit, and the rest is concentration and dead on aiming and shooting skills. With the limited experience I have had when moving onto the 200 yard firing range, I have always relied on simply knowing how much hold-over to use over the bull of the target.

Should I learn the click-in method of shooting for PD hunting? Or, do you guys feel like using the hold-over method with a mil-dot scope will work just fine for me?

I stay under 200 yards, and never need to hold "above fur." I adjust hold slightly for windage or distance, but I don't use clicks.

But there are much more serious varmit hunters than me...

I have a 4200 6-24x40 on my M1A. Teh ballistics for th eround show it even @ 50 & 209 yards. I sight in @ 50 and then again @ 200. @ 100 yards you're 1.5-1.8" high based on .308 150 grain ballistics.

The holdover on the mil dots is easy to calculate and has been discussed in other threads Do a search and it you can't figure it out PM me and I'll point you in the right direction. Also might want to check out www.mildotmaster.com

for anything under 200 yards, you probably won't need to worry unless you are shooting something really slooowww. Beyond that, I use come-ups and dial the scope in (external knobs are a must). Know you come-ups, or get a calibrated knob from Kenton Industries. You'll need to be able to extimnate range accurately
