Do you have to use chemicals when using tumbler with stainless pins?

I think I'm going to start by tumbling my running my dirty brass in just water and some Dawn (always have that around anyways). Then I'll deprime and size my brass on my lee load master. Then I'll run it again in the tumbler

My range has nasty 40 grit dirt.
I always rinse the brass in a bucket then make a quick 1./2 hour pass (with wash and wax and citric acid) then let the brass dry before depriming.
After depriming I make another 1 hour pass with wash and wax and acid and my pockets are spotless.
(the lemi shine/citric acid really helps)
In the summer I put the cases on an old towel in the sun to dry (quick when its 105 outside) int eh winter I just sick them out of the way in the corner of a room. Dry in a day or so assuming the room is a reasonable temp.

I had an old media separator I used when dry tumbling, handy for getting out the pins. YOu will want to get a pickup magnet, they try to escape.

(this is the one I have)

I have the frankford media separator

but others will work just as well.

Dudedog I bought the first magnet while I was ordering the tumbler, sounds like its good I did. I already have that media separator too, do the pins not fly everywhere when using it?

Will tumbling with pins after brass has been sized and expanded cause any problems?

If you go slow and change directions many times they will not fly every where. I only have a few (<5) that seam to want to escape but no more. An they are laying to the side of the separator. Be careful opening up the separator there seams to always be some trapped between the halfs.

I anneal after cleaning which allows me to check for pins, never find any. I also use a wax and just wipe if off after sizing. Have not run it to remove lube. Have used the vibrator type to clean lube off, though.
