MYSTERY SHOTGUN!!!

I have the opportunity to buy this pump 12 gauge for $175. The only problem is that the seller claims it's a Ithaca model 55. I have been unable to find any such model on the internet! If it's not an Ithaca, then what is it!?

I thought it was a winchester model 12, but I don't think so. The weirdest thing about the gun is that the rear stock sort of engulfs the entire rear of the receiver. I have no idea.

like a mix of a bunch of different parts? Im looking through old stevens models. The Stevens 820b is the closest thing I can find, but still the ejection port doesn't look right.

It is either a Savage/Springfield/Stevens Model 820 , Or the Nobel Model 40 ? I think it is the Nobel but they are very simular.

Either way, I would not spend $175 on it. You can find a used Mossberg 500 for that and have a much better gun.

Ya, I don't think I will pay the 175. What would be a reasonable price for this thing???

The stock design definately looks the part. Why not take him at his word for $125 It might be a hell of a deal dont think I'd offer more than that. Not a model 55 that was a rifle made by Tikka of all people. After looking at a few online I second the Nobel Model 40.

The problem with paying anything is that they were not a good gun. Head space problems and broken lifter springs were common. Without function and test firing I would pass .

If it functioned OK, and test fired OK, than I suppose if you realy want it -up to $100 . Again however, I would not waste the money on a gun that is close to the bottom of all pump shotguns in quality and reliability. $100 goes a long ways toward buying a better shotgun these days.

I second that on the price. I would offer 100 bucks I probably wouldnt pay much more personally.

You can buy a brand new mossberg maverick or some other models for about 200.

It certainly appears to be a noble 40. Ask him to send photo's of the stampings on the gun. There are lots of reliable steel framed pumps out there with low price tags, but as has been mentioned the nobles were not known for reliability.
