as the title says, do you label your magazines?

if so what do you label them with? a marker? label maker? or something else?

Chad

The only magazines I label are USA brand magazines. I use a hammer. That's my way of labelling them unfit for use.

I number mine. That way I can keep track of which ones give me problems at the range. Some I used a permanent Sharpie on and some I used a labelmaker.

I'd say, paint pen, permanent marker or labelmaker all work equally well. I use the Dymo Letratag plastic labels.

A Sharpie is handy when you have a stack of magazines that belongs to you and an identical stack that belongs to the Army. The markings also come right off with Hoppes or CLP.

Yes, I label mine. Otherwise, it is pretty hard to determine if malfunctions are evenly distributed across magazines, or if they seem more common with one (or more) mag in particular. Sure, if you only have a couple of magazines and/or if the dud magazine is really obviously bad (jams nearly every time) this would be unnecessary. But if you have two dozen magazines and only have infrequent malfunctions, it is a good idea.

I know one guy who thought his OlyArms AR was only so-so in the reliability department, until we labeled his magazines. Turns out that replacing two of seven magazines basically eliminated his "reliability issues."

Me? I have labeled mine since the beginning, and have never found one to be problematic. The way my luck runs, the day I stop labeling new mags is the day I will start jamming repeatedly...so I look at it as cheap insurance. ;)

Yep, same as everyone else. I use a Dremel to number mine. Performance issues, drop-free issues, whatever. I can write it down at the range, then sort it out whenever there's time.

I'm thinking of labeling mine. That way I'd know if a certain magazine had problems. One of my 30 rounders for instance doesn't want more than 29.

I use an engraver on the bottom of the floorplate. In highpower, a lot of guys will use one set of mags for 200yds, 300yds, alibis, etc and have a variety of systems, most often different colors of paint or large numbers, to keep them all sorted out.

I use Sharpies too but, more specifically, Sharpie METALLICS. The metallic pens show up better on blued mags and are formulated to write on smooth, metallic surfaces. They come in different colors, including gold, silver and copper.

I number mine with a paint pen. I use different colors for mags that look the same, (white for FAL, red for M-14...)
I paint the numbers to keep track of any mal-functions, and to establish ownership, especially at matchs that require "runnin and gunnin" and dropping pistol mags in the dirt

No. I don't have multiple brands of magazines and I don't load them with different ammunition. Perhaps when my arsenal expands.

On a totally off-topic note, I can finally post for the first time in three months, I think. My email went crazy until recently and I couldn't remember mah password. Now I can finally get my fix. ;)

Yes, for both rifle and pistol.

The mags for my 3913 9mm are stainless, so I use a black Sharpie and number them with a small number on the side. Helps me ensure I've tested all the mags I own, and whenever I rotate my carry ammunition, I also change to a different mag so one mag doesn't suffer all the environmental exposure.

For the rifles, I use a Dymo labelmaker (the old-fashioned kind, that imprints raised letters in narrow plastic tape, was like $10 at Staple's). Mags for the mini-14 and "AK" have a number on the baseplate and a label on the side near the bottom denoting what they're loaded with (55 JHP, for example).
