Hey guys I just wanted to see what ya'll think of my gun cleaning process.

First I field strip the gun and then I spray it down or completely soak the gun in Simple Green, after it has soaked and most of the powder resiude is no longer visable on the gun I take it to the kitchen sink and rinse it, after this I take it to the air compressor and blow dry the guns dry. Finally I spray the guns down with a cleaner/lubricant and wipe away the excess liquids.

Do you folks see any problems with this procedure? I do remove the handgrips prior to starting the cleaning process.

The guns that I have used this procedure on are a Kimber Stainless Pro Carry, Kimber Stainless TLE and a S & W LadySmith.

You're over-doing it.

What you're doing is only needed once a year or so. For regular cleaning, just pull the slide, clean the barrel, wipe and oil everything else. For your once a year detail strip, consider using naptha (lighter fluid). It cleans out the nooks and crannies, dries with no film to get rid of.

I guess I don't see much advantages to what you're doing, I but do see a couple of converns. But they're your guns.

Seems a bit excessive to do everytime, and I worry about doing this on revolvers. How can you be sure you got all the solvent, and then all the water out of the insides (around the hammer, trigger etc.)?

Plus just spraying lubricant on the outside of the gun wouldn't get much if any inside again.

I just use the "old fashion" method of solvent with a brush then patches to clean the gun, then lightly oil where appropriate (plus a drop or two down the hammer on my revolver once in a while). Doesn't take very long, and the guns are clean.
