Do you still have your first gun?

Yeah, I've got mine. I bought an 870 express that had spent the first part of its life in a police car in '99 - you know y2k and all. Luckily that never happened and I turned gun nut pretty quickly. I have bought and sold quite a few since but see no reason to get rid of that one - to tell you the truth, I think I got pretty lucky being relatively ignorant and getting a great first gun.

Cheers.

I still have the Winchester Mod. 290 22lr. that I got as a birthday present in 1970 and the hand-me-down Sears and Roebuck .222Rem that was a birthday present in 1972.

Don't have the BB guns of yesteryear anymore.

The first revolver and shotgun that I had bought with my own money are gone but I won't sell the ones given as gifts.

Yes, S&W 5906. Because it was first, I'll probably never get rid of it. That, and the fact that it has become far more accurate over time. ;)

My second gun was a Ruger Mini-14...let's just say that someone else owns it now.

Sort of. I am about to give my first gun, a .22 single-shot, to my newly-born grandson. His father can decide when the time is right for him to actually have it.

Yes I do

Iver Johnson 410. bored out for 3" shells. I have not shot it in a long time. Still keep it clean and mean. First gun I ever shot wild game with.
I miss him a bunch....but it is very cool to still have that piece of family history.

When my ex wife and I broke up, several of my guns "disappeared." I asked her about them, and she said she had taken them to "Make sure your sons have them." Later a Judge ordered her to give them back. She didn't, and some hills just aren't worth dying for. I assume one of my boys have my first gun. I've never asked them.

Ithaca M-66 Supersingle. 20ga lever action single shot youth model.

It looked like this one. (This is a 12 ga.)

Yes, a Ruger 10/22. It doesn't look much like it did when I first received it. I still have the original stock and barrel though. It was given to me by my father. I suspect it will be with me 'till I die.

Nope, no longer have first gun. It was a Ruger single six, 22.lr (three screw). It belonged to my grandfather and was willed to be when he died.

My Mamma tried to shoot Daddy about 12 years ago and the Police confiscated it. I don't know what the police did with the gun, but my parents got divorced after 25 years of marriage.

Winchester Model 47 .22 single shot. It came with a Weaver B4 scope which has long since gone down the road. The rifle now wears a decent off brand 1 inch scope and sits in the safe in a place of honor.

Oh yeah, the year was 1961. Yeah, I'm an old fart.:)

.22 German Mauser

Grandma gave it to me after I found it in her basement after Grandpa passed away. She had no idea where it came from, Grandpa was a collector of anything interesting.

It is a sweet shooting rifle. I could shoot circles around my buddies with their Marlins.

I still have it but I havn't shot it in about 25 years. I think I will drag it out once it warms up around here.

Thanks for sending me on a little trip down memory lane.

God Rest Grandma and Grandpa

Some first guns should go

My first two guns were what I thought I wanted in my youthful newbie-ism. When I realized I wanted less-expensive, more old-fashioned guns, and I wanted more of them, I downgraded to more, cheaper guns.

Yes, I do have my first. My Dad gave me a Savage, mod 24...22/410. I hunt rabbit, tin cans, and those tree rodents(bushy tails). The gun looks like I've carried it since I was ten...'cause I have.
Mark.

Argh! No! Thanks for bringing that up

I sold my Beretta 96 Brig Inox to fund my second gun purchase. Sold that too. Dang it!

I had no shooters in my immediate family to guide me, and this was very, very, pre-Internet. No one I'm aware of prints a gun-rag or publishes a book that's aimed twoards helping out a new shooter with no gun owning family or friends. I had no idea how to find shooters who could give me advice, or even that I should be looking for them.
I know exactly how you feel. I'm also a pre-internet self-taught shooter. The books and magazines were like Greek until I learned the language. Almost all of them assume you already have some knowledge of firearms. This is actually what kept me from getting involved in the shooting sports for years. Until I found the book that opened the door for me. I've been a certifiable gun fanatic ever since. :D

Yessir!

Winchester Model 77 (clip fed) .22LR from my Grandmother's late 2nd husband (called him Smitty). I'm FINALLY going to clean it up this weekend. I've STILL never shot it!

First and second. Guess the others don't count as I began picking them up 34 years after the first two.

The first is a Remington 514 .22 cal single shot bolt action that came from somewhere in the family--never was sure. The second a Mossberg 195K bolt action 12 GA purchased as an 'all around' firearm at age 18.
