I'm considering high capacity as anything above 10 rounds.

I'm curious how many people usually fully load their high cap magazines when at the range or load to 10 and stop?

I load to 10 to split the box of 50 rounds up into equal amounts, but on 1911's and 380's or any gun that has a magazine capacity of less than 10 I don't go down to 5, I'll fully load them up. I don't remember if I've always done that, but I know since I reload I tend to shoot in amounts of 50 if I'm going to shoot that caliber at all.

I've put an "Other" up just for sake of discussion.

I don’t normally do mag dumps
But I hate reloading mags, so I want every round I can get in them

The exception is if I’m testing a load or sighting in a scope. Then I’ll only put in what I plan for the group

I fill them all up with an Uplula before I go to the range and always have more mags than I need. If that's too many I unload when them when I get home. I don't fiddle around with anything but shooting when I get to the range. And my range is in my backyard.

On the pistol combat range I can, and do, load full mags. Unfortunately my club rules only allow 5 rounds per mag on the rifle ranges, and I do follow the rules

It depends on what I am doing but I'll fill a magazine most of the time.

I have a couple S&W M&P autos and I bought some 10 round magazines to use at the range to save the full capacity magazines for important work.

Pistols, yes. rifles, not usually. I have a 40 round P-mag for the AR's that's never had more than 20 in it, most of my many 40 round AK mags don't get more than twenty in them at the range, And I've only done a mag dump once with my 75 rd. drum. It's actually kind of boring after 30 or so. I usually load the 30 rounders AK and AR with 20 at the range also, round counts can jump quick otherwise.

I bring them full, but usually load less once im there, especially rifle.

I often do failure drills, or just practice mag changes (mostly pistol), so itll be random.
a lot of times, my friend and i will load each others mags, with "who knows how many" in it, along with randomly added dummy rounds.
kinda keeps you on your toes, and breaks up the monotony.

Pretty much start out loading 5 rounds per mag. After awhile with that I will load up 10 rounds if it's a higher capacity mag. Anything less than 10 rounds would be loaded up as a full mag.

Pistol - I find that I burn through less ammo if I keep it to 10 or less.
Rifle - Most (that I use today) are bolt action,,, (1) has no mag.
On those rare occasions when I break out an AR, I have 10 and 30 round mags. Which/how full depends on what I'm attempting to accomplish.

All depends - if I am working with new reloads, I'll load 5-10 to see how the load works in several guns of the same cartridge design. If it is a known load and I am practicing, then I will load it up.

Load them full at home, empty them at the range. I seldom shoot more than a hundred rounds, even through the ARs so if I carry 4 or 5 mags then I’m good to go. The only magazines that I load at the range are the expensive ones I don’t have a pile of (marlin 62, marlin 795, Phoenix hp22 etc.) ARs, m9, etc go ready to play.

Depends. Like you - less than 10 rounds and I'll fill the magazine up.

10 round capacity and up I'll load to the largest capacity interval of 5 that I can IF I'm loading from a box because it makes it easy to just drop orderly amount out. If I'm looking from loose ammo though (ie, sometimes when shooting reloads I've just got them in a bag or something) then I'll fill up the mag.

All my magazines go to 11!

Seriously though, I general load them as I carry them. For some that's one less than capacity.

Pistols, yes. rifles, not usually.

Maybe a bit off topic but...

I've been using an AR-15 chambered in 204 Ruger (26" barrel) for Prairie Dogs. Several "Prairie Dog hunts" ago, I decided that I was going through too much ammunition too fast so I only load 4-5 rounds in each of my 10 round magazines. (Ten round magazines work well for shooting from a bench on stands/bags).

It controls my rate of shooting and forces a period of time to allow the barrel to cool a little.

For functionality I load them full all the time. My Savage 22lr holds ten and has issues when loaded full but if I only load 7 it works good.

I don't generally load the big mags all the way. I figure load 10 ten times or load 100... all the same in the end. I watch my buddy constantly trying to fill his xd mags full... pitiful really, lol.

Whatever, the range is fun time... busting thumbs for a few extra rounds per mag aint my idea of fun. And i also like to keep the rows even ( actually more so dont like uneven rows in my box of ammo lol). Always hated that like 2 or 3 rd last mag!

The public range where I shoot is fun by the State. All handguns are limited to 6 rounds and all rifles are limited to 3 rounds. I can't check function of my 7 round 1911 mags and it takes the gun out of shooting most semi-auto rifles. It's just the way it is...

Sorry, can’t vote. Like others I don’t have any “high cap mag’s”. I don’t think I have ever done a “mag dump”. I don’t have a “Magula”.

I do however load my standard pistol magazines to full capacity and generally use a Barney to top things off. I know it messes up the nice neat rows it the box of ammunition, but I don’t care.

I have never used a “Magula”, Glock gives you a free loader in every box, just like Cracker Jacks.

I generally single load my rifles. Why, who knows.

Most of the time I load 10, or I load what ever the drills I'll be running call for:

6's when running El Presidentes
15 and 10 when running 5x5s
2's when I'm working on reloads

Usually load 5 rds in my pistol mags. It slows me down so I concentrate more on good fundamentals and mag changes. I think a slower pace is more productive for me and helps me improve more quickly.

Full to the top baby, I cram in all the mag will take all the time and you know I do the same with revolvers so mag dump isn’t why I do it.

There is NO SUCH THING as a "high-capacity magazine."

Personally -- I don't have any "high-capacity" magazines. I do, however, own a fair amount of standard capacity magazines.

Please desist in buying into the anti's terminology ...

I was thinking the same thing.

Except I consider anything beyond standard or with an extension as “high capacity”.
So a 30 round mag is normal capacity but to me a 40 is high.

That said I agree we should be very careful and not use high capacity when talking with others who aren’t shooters.
