DOB of model 36 and 37

I see people asking on here for a date for their S&W revolvers and I have two I am curious about. How or where are you getting the info? Do you have a book as I have not found a place on the NET to find this out. Anyways the Mocel 36 38 sp. was used by the State Police and has the troopers number on it but the serial number is 353Jxx. The model 37 38 sp. has serial number J9955xx. I noticed everyone made the last 2 numbers xx so I did too. Can anyone help?

Model 36 #353Jxx would have been 1971-1972. The Model 37 #J9955xx would be 1982.

There are no places on the internet that I know of for S&W dating, but we do use "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" by Jim Supica. The 3rd edition just came out in January and it's very nice. I wish Colt had one for their guns.
