Does anyone carry a Sig P220?

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone here carries a Sig P220... I am buying one for my first handgun, and I would like to use it for CCW, but I know it's a big heavy chunk of metal. Does anyone here do it?

I know it's not the best for CCW, but I'm not buying it for that. I'll get something more suited to concealment later on.

Someone in the world carries just about any handgun ever made I'm sure. It really depends on you and your clothes if you can pull it off though.

I can conceal a full size cz 75 phantom with an owb holster depending on my clothes.

Just make sure you get a good gun belt if you want to carry it. It'll get heavy.

People carry heavy 1911's all day. I'm sure there isn't that much of a difference except thickness.

It's the thickness that I'm actually a little concerned about. I don't care about winter, since I wear a hoodie almost 24/7 when it's cold out, but it's summer that I can't really see working well.

I carry a Sig P228, which is basically a P220 with a barrel about a half inch shorter. To be fair, it is a double stack 9mm as opposed to a single stack .45, but I find that the dimensions and weight feel similar when held in the hand (both my father and a friend carry a 220, albeit not full time).

In my opinion, the best gun for CCW is the one that fits you and you shoot best. If you like the 220 and shoot well with it, DEFINITELY pick one up. They are great guns. I find that the key to carrying one comfortably is a good belt and holster. I'd take a look at a Belt Man or Wilderness Instructor belt and a Crossbreed Supertuck. With this combination, I can usually conceal fairly well in shorts and a tshirt, though I usually wear a button down shirt that is a bit thicker when I carry. Just a bit more to help cover the gun.

The 220 is probably a tad bit thinner than the 228, so that would be in your favor. You could also look into getting the new grips that Sig is making (I think "e2"?) which are a bit thinner.

I have the P220 carry version, the Equinox in 45 acp. Great handgun! Very reliable - I have th 2 tone version.- Slightly smaller than the traditional 220, but not in a bad way. Go check one out for yourself, and see how you like it.

The secret to successfully carrying the 220 or a similar firearm is using a quality gunbelt and holster. You won't notice the weight if it's carried properly.

I carry a P220 on occasion... its a bit thinner than my P229 I usually carry. I think the trick is to make sure to get a proper holster and belt like everyone else has said. I use a Galco holster with a cant that helps move the butt of the gun forward enough to hide its profile.

Yeah, after looking up the stats, I agree that they are. I was just going off of memory of how they felt when I was shooting them. I didn't feel much difference between the size of the grip. Now that could have been the aftermarket grips on the gun or maybe I was wearing gloves, but I guess a small difference in actual thickness means more when you're trying to conceal the gun than when you're just out shooting it.

I don't carry a P220, YET, but it is on my to buy list. I do however carry a S&W 1006 or 1066 almost always, year round. I have been toying with carrying my G20, as it weights less. Like the folks said a good belt and holster do the job.

I occasionally carry my p220 in a crossbreed supertuck. Its plenty thin compared to many others out there as have been mentioned. Good belt and holster and it'll do ya just fine.

I have carried the 220 in a Galco Royal Guard IWB Holster. A very nice weapon that is easy to carry and to shoot accurately.

I haven't carried mine but I just slid it iwb wearing a regular old belt and shorts. It seemed to be fairly comfortable and it is lighter than my 1911 or my revolvers. I'm thinking it would carry fairly comfortable in a good holster and belt.

Also in my opinion....they all seem heavy until you get used to carrying.

I've carried mine pretty regularly in an Alessi CQC/s, The alloy framed model is much lighter than the full stainless ST or Elite models

I have carried a P220 on and off over the years. It is easier to carry than a 1911 IMHO because its lighter and about the same size as a commander 1911.

I used to have a nice Milt Sparks VM2 but I have also carried it in a Kramer.

My P220 is my cold weather CCW. As others have stated, it is easy to carry with a good belt and holster. I carry mine in an AKJ Concealco IWB holster and Simply Rugged "real man" belt.

the length of the grip frame is harder for me to conceal than the length of the barrel with most guns...

I find the P220 carries easy with a proper holster...I prefer OWB and a straight drop Bruce Nelson Scabbard/Askins Avenger type holster...

Not really sure how much this helps, but I have occasionally carried my P226 around the house IWB in a DeSantis Cozy Partner holster and have found it to be quite comfortable at about the 3:30 or 4 o'clock position (I'm 6'0", 175 lbs, 33" waist). I've never actually carried it in public, though.

A friend carries his P220 in a Safepacker as a church gun.

I toted a P220 from 1990-1993, and found it delightfully light, slim, and compact. Toting N-frame revolvers and all-steel 1911 pistols for a few years will influence one's perspective! The IWB rig I used is long out of production and now obsolete, as it would collapse under belt pressure without a pistol in it.

The fatter-butt P229 pistols that I now own ride very comfortably in several rigs, the most concealable being a Milt Sparks VM2.

The 220 isn't that heavy. I carried mine in a Galco OWB.

I have to ask if your recommendation is based on personal handling/shooting experience with either a 220 Carry or 220 Compact or are you just going by how they look?

I ask because my experience has been that their function isn't universal across the lineup

They don't have the rail and they are all steel so they are kinda heavy

All the non-railed 220s had aluminum alloy frames, the first all steel 220 was the 220 Sport which had a rail to support their barrel weight.

The all steel ST and Elite models have rails

I carry a SIG Model 220 Carry (the new, milled receiver, internal extractor model) comfortably and well-concealed in an iwb holster. This pistol has been proven to be 100% reliable so far (knock on wood).
