3x5Cards

I've been keeping 3x5 cards for years (35 to be exact) once I got more than one gun. I list make, model, caliber, significant demensions, s/n, where I bought it and how much. When I sell it I list to whom and how much.

Of course in a separate file, in a separate room of the house, I have all the receipts.

I also started something for my wife called a "love letter". In it I details all the things she needs to know about if I die. This includes a listing of all guns and their value. I update it every New Years. HINT: This is good thing for all spouses to do. List all financial accounts, and assets (like guns and ham radios) that she might not be acquainted.

I may look into this gunsafe program.

I've done this, and continue to do it. What prompted me was something I read, but can't remember where. It was about a young woman whos father was dieing. She wrote about her father, very matter of factly, taking her out into the yard to show her where the septic tank was. His reasoning was that the next time it needed to be emptied he would not be around to have it done, so she needed this info. She wrote this entire article on this one little event that I'm sure was just a common sense thing to do for her father. But to her it was something much greater. Made me think.

On another note... I'm getting a password prompt for Gunsafe too.

Yes, in my head.

Besides having the make, model, serial number, and date purchased in a "home inventory" database I also have all the serial numbers memorized.

On this same note I was wondering....
If it would be a good idea to make a catalogue and have it notorized in preparation for future 'gun control' laws?
Anyone think this is a worthwhile idea?

I placed all my firearms into a revocable living trust. The trust lists the firearms by type and serial number. It also establishes the successor trustee's authority to dispose of the firearms after my death. I also provided the successor trustee with a list of the firearms with their purchase price and their approximate replacement value.

You bet. even keep pictures of them. I have the serial numbers, copies of the reciepts, with a picture stapled to the information. Two copies one in a locked filing cabinet. Other safety deposit box. Wachoivia bank.

Just finished logging one safe, only three more to go!:D I am using Gunsafe as my primary log. I LIKE it!!

I keep a list of my guns, serial numbers, costs and accessories. In addition, I have a notebook with a picture of each one with a short description and all of the receipts for related expendatures. This is mainly for my wife in case I'm not around and she wants to sell them. I figure it will help with a claim if I'm ever robbed.

I keep as detailed records on my firearms as I can, including detail of parts and accessories for each, and dated records on when the firearms are fired, carried, cleaned, etc.

For example, an excerpt from my HK USP45 Tactical record.

16/2/2008 15:00-18:00: Fired 50 rounds of Blazer .45 ACP 230 grain Full Metal Jacket (aluminum cased) There were no malfunctions.

16/2/2008 18:30: Weapon field stripped and cleaned. Weapon reassembled, placed in original HK hardcase, and locked in gun safe.
