I just picked up a Polish TT33 for AIM. What a sweet little pistol! I was amazed how thin the Tok is. It made me think that it would make a VERY nice CCW.

Does anyone carry a tok? If you do, do you use the safety and half cock notch?

Occasionally I'll carry my Romanian Tokarev. But usually when I'm helping my buddy on his ranch in ND. It's a gun that I don't mind if it sees muck and yuck.

*ETA* I also carry it as my BBQ gun. It's not fancy but it's unique.

i wouldn't trust the add on safety. it wasn't designed with one..

not saying it doesn't work.. just dunno if id trust a modification

I have, and you certainly got one of the nicest versions...it's about Colt 1903-sized, and great as a carry gun for obvious reasons....I just carried mine with an empty chamber and the hammer cocked, not trusting my ability to manipulate any of the add-on import-required safeties....friend AK Church has gone as far as to have his safety removed and the hole welded up to get back to original basics....it's a great Browning-principle self-loader.....how's the condition on your Polish gun?....Look anything like the photos on the site?....parts all match?....mags?......

mtngunr, my TT33 looks like the one in the picture! It is in very good condition, and NOT the good+ in the ad. I paid the extra $20 for the handpick though. The slide, barrel and frame #'s match, but not the mags.

thanks for the reply, wnycollector....I've been kicking myself for years for not getting one of those when they were all-matching/matching-mags for $100....might have to get one.....another option for carry, depending on hands/digits, is to shorten the firing pin a thousandths or so to sho'nuff rebounding status and carry the gun uncocked with a round chambered....my stumpy digits find cocking a TT33 VERY slow and iffy, but your mileage may vary.....

That ever-so-slightly convex trigger gives a much better feel, and it goes nicely with the rest of the trigger job that you can't see.

Got the idea from a 1911 flat trigger, and went from there.

Got one for $75 bucks on Gunbroker and it was actually a good deal!!!

Not a great picture, just need more practice, so I suppose I'll have to buy more guns

Oh, and full cock with the safety on.

No way! Not a safe gun for CCW. Not unless there was literally no other gun around.

I think it's a perfectly safe gun for carry, provided you don't carry it with a round chambered. I also have seen limited ballistics testing that demonstrated hollowpoint 7.62x25 has reduced overpenetration worries. You could also switch to 9x19 if that was a worry.

But I do think there are MANY other and better choices for CCW than the TT.

You could argue that the same thing is true about the 1911;)

Still, if I was to carry one (added safety or not) it would be with an empty chamber and the hammer cocked.

I agree that there are much better CCW's. Personally, I carry either a ruger security six snubbie .357 or SIG P220 .45. I think the tok woudl be great if it could be carried "cocked and locked"!

not really. the 1911 never existed with out a safety. it had a safety, since the final prototype in 1910 until its adoption didn't exist as the M1911.
the safety on a 1911 was done by the original designer, as part of the army's requirements before the pistol was adopted. thats pretty much "original design" if you ask me. if JMB was opposed to a safety he shouldn't have pursued the contract . please don't start the "jmb didn't want it that way!11!!1"

the safety on the TT33 was added by the importer... possibly by the monkeys at Centry.

i certainly see a difference

Granted, the "Model of 1911" never existed without a thumb safety, but the basic design did. Like I said, you could argue the point; to me the 1911 is a modified version of an earlier pistol. To you it isn't ("...thats pretty much "original design" if you ask me.") and there's nothing wrong with that.

I have a Norinco 213 and I think the Chinese did the safety not the importer.

Greg
