I put Hogue rubber grips on my SS revolvers because I think the wood ones look funny on SS. I also don't like the look of black rubber grips on blued guns. Blued guns should have nice wood grips and SS should have either really dark wood or black rubber grips. Am I the only one that sees things this way?

Look funny? I think not! :)

I think it's funny that everyone new to 1911's seems to run out first thing and get the ugliest grips ever made - those Hogue wrap-arounds. Ugh! :p

These are Eagle Grips on my 640:

blonde wood usually looks very good on stainless guns, dark woods usually look poor, at least in my opinion ...

so try some blondes (wood, that is)!!

and you certainly don't have to agree!

Rubber makes any handgun look bad. It's just a cheap way out for the manufactors that they have unfortunately sold the concept to many handgun owners today.

Now "Rubber Grips" have there place. Enhancing the beauty of a handgun just isn't one of them. I have factory wood and custom wood grips for all my revolvers but always put the rubber ones on while "using" them.

Rubber Grips Pluses...
1. At the range, they protect your expensive wood grips from handling marks, chips etc.
2. They handle recoil better than wood.
3. Cheap.
4. Handle well.

Rubber Grips Drawbacks...
1. Hold moisture next to your gun.
2. Ugly
3. Some are sticky and hard to get out if you pocket carry.

Funny, I was just agonizing over this myself but went ahead and ordered some walnut grips for my Model 64 (to replace Pachmyr Gripper).

I figured I could swap 'em out at will if I don't like it!

Nope like the wood grips i have on my 44 myself and looking for a nice set of wood grips for my Ruger SA its polished stainless

GOOD WOOD STOCKS NEVER NEVER EVER LOOK BAD ON A SIXGUN!!!

Now the other side of this coin is rubber stocks NEVER NEVER EVER look worth a hoot in hades on a sixgun and they NEVER will, and it doesn't matter if the sixgun involved is blued steel or stainless steel
Furthermore, those fugly rubber stocks DO NOT handle recoil all that well. When the shooter involved has had the foresight to buy wood stocks made for his very own personal hand then he will know whereof I speak.
One hint: always order wood stocks thinner than you could possibly think would be best. I assure you they will be the best as the closer you come to closing yore very own personal fist completely around the stocks the better you'll handle the recoil and yore sixgun.

Nice wood grips don't look bad on SS revolvers but they look even better on blued gun IMO. I guess I like the modern look of SS and black rubber on a revolver and the classic look of nice wood and blued steel. The darker the wood, the better it looks on a SS gun because of the contrast effect. i guess because good wood grips are expensive, I would rather put them on a blued steel gun. SS will still look cool with rubber grips but blued and black rubber looks really bad. I guess SS can go both ways but blued has to have wood.

I really don't think those blond wood grips look good on that Python. Sorry.:) They make the gun look cheap somehow. Not insulting your gun, just not my tastes I guess. I am clearly in the minority so don't worry about what I say.

I agree with Albanian. I prefer black grips on stainless guns, although I don't particularly like rubber grips on anything. I like hard nylon, micarta, and ebony or other black wood.

I actually like the all black look on 1911 and other pistols, but prefer wood grips on a blued revolver.

I don't like blonde grips on SS either. I think the darker woods look good. Maybe not straight black like ebony, but definitely some dark walnut. Blonde has got to go though...

I think this gun looks great. I hope he doesn't mind me posting it...
