Does anyone else want S&W adjustable sights on a Hi Power?

Well, after fifteen years, I really want to do something about these giant adjustable sights on my Silver Chrome HP.

Over time, the idea of installing S&W sights on my HP has become more and more appealing. I love the sights on my revolvers, and I think they would work well on the HP, and it is kind of a neat, retro-cool look :)

Here is a link to Stephen Camp's HP site, with a pic of his Hi Power:

I like it! I emailed Don Williams at Action Works, and he says that he can do it. I don't know how long or how much, but I'll call him tomorrow.

Does anyone have an HP with S&W sights? I'd love to see some more pics and read a few opinions of this modification.

I think they (HiPowers) look good with them, and, as you know, they are a retro throwback to earlier mods done to BHP's and 1911's. The S&W sight is still a nice looking and functional sight, but installation will be more expensive than most any other adj. alternative.

Yeah, I'll probably get sticker shock, but on the other hand, this would open a whole bunch of possible variations of adjustable sights including night sights. A red ramp front would be pretty swell, too.

The expensive part that folks often forget about is having to fill in the rear dovetail and refinishing that block to match the slide (folks usually just refinish the whole slide). Cutting the notch for the rear blade and the slot for the leaf spring is pretty straight forward, but they do usually put a heavy duty screw in so it won't shear off from the recoil of the light slide.

I only know about it because it was quite popular back in the 70s. My first duty 1911 (Combat Commander) had the S&W K-frame sights mounted on it...couldn't afford Bomars and there was nothing else on the market

I don't have photos, but had two Hi Powers done with the S&W adustable rear sights and serrated ramp front sights back in the early '70s. One had the sight mounted to the rear of the slide like Mr. Camp's, and the other had the sight mounted in the original rear sight location, but with the dovetail modified to allow the S&W sight to fit down in it. The second style was called the "protected" position back in those days. Both worked very well and never gave any problems. I have been tempted to have Don Williams do another Hi Power or Colt for me with the S&W rear sight. BTW, Don installed Novak and Heinie sights on a couple of Colts and a Hi Power for me. He does very good work, stands behind it and is a gentleman to deal with. Once, he even fixed something for me while I waited. I can recommend his work and his customer service.

I, too, love the classic look of K frame revolver sights on a BHP. Keep us Hi Power fans updated on your project-to-be, please.

I have a Colt with a S&W revolver sight in the "protected" position.
John Lawson gave me a big sales pitch on it and directed me away from a Bomar.
Darn him. It looks way kewl and was already retro at the time. But it is not as effective for aiming the gun as a Bomar, even one in the "protected" position.

I don't know of anyone putting S&W sights on Hi Powers these days, but I picked up a 75C with the work already done and I quite like them.

The newer BHP's with adjustable sights have them "melted" into the frame. They are somewhat recessed, unlike our earlier (mine's a 1994) Silver Chromes with adj sights, rubber, wrap around grips and gold "pimp" trigger.

I would opt for one of those if the sight's height is bothering you. I agree, the retro look is cool on those older, modified guns.

I don't think I'd pay to have it done but sure would jump on one already modified were it to come my way oor perhaps try it myself if I come across a lone slide at the right price.

A nice alternative in price would be to utilize the existing dove tail like a couple above to get around the fill&finish required otherwise.

Thanks for posting OP & owners.
