I've been looking for a used 1300 Defender since they were discontinued without success, and I saw an SXP Defender at a show about a month ago, but I can't find much info about it. I prefer the balance of the 5 shot Mossberg 500 to that of the 7 shot model, and the new SXP has the shorter 5 shot mag so I'm guessing I would like the balance more than that of the original 1300 Defender, and it has the original 1300 speed pump design, as well as an Inflex Technology recoil pad. It's $300 for the SXP that already has a recoil reducing stock compared to about $440 for a Mossberg 500 with a Knoxx Spec-ops stock, so does anybody have an SXP or have any experience shooting one? Also does anyone know if the 1300 Defender accessories will fit the new model?

The SXP Defender is an amazing shotgun...I own it and have put only 25 rounds through it. It is amazing ...bit hard on the recoil (bird shot) but it wasnt as much as some mossburg or remington i have shot. My understanding is that the 1300 accessions will fit the defender

I compared the WINCHESTER SXP DEFENDER with the MOSSBERG 500 today at the gun store.........

I gotta say I was more impressed with the Winchester....better quality, VERY solid and tight, very good fit for me as well as the grip compared to the 500 which felt very sloppy and loose.....and I was thinking about buying a MOSSBERG, but now I don't know.

I originally wanted a Remington, with millions sold there must be a reason, but I don't like the way they fit me or the finish on them, I've seen several in GANDER MOUNTAIN sitting on the rack with RUST.....unbelievable! :what:

My friend has the WINCHESTER and it's his favorite gun!
......I think I gotta have one!

I have the SXP field model, and I am still looking for the Defender barrel to put on it (they had a combo package earlier this year, but I missed out on it).

Picked it up over most other guns I looked at in my LGS, due to the feel in the hand and the light weight overall. Granted, that will lead to a bit more felt recoil, but the decelerator on it works like a charm.

Ive shot a few rounds of clays, and really liked how it worked. I just need to use it more often. :)

So I was up at Cabela's today with a buddy. He was buying a rifle that I was trying to talk him out of, but he did not heed my advice. Now he'll have a mediocre rifle that'll leave him wanting a better rifle anyway.

While he was doing his mental health assessment form (barely passed it), I was looking at shotguns. I've always wanted a more appropriate home defense weapon and assumed that I'd end up with a Remington 870 Tactical. I felt the tactical but it just didn't feel natural in my hand. It felt 'thin' compared to what I was used to and the controls weren't as intuitive to me. When I picked up the mossberg 500, i wasn't impressed. The pump felt sloppy and the fit and finish just felt crappy.

I picked up the Winchester expecting a cheaply made foreign gun and it had red badges to grab your attention (I figured they were compensating for something). When I held it up, the balance was very nice. The synthetic stocks felt fine in my hands, and the action was smooth, but still firm and inspired confidence. I'm told it has a sweet feature that throws the pump back to the shooter, allowing the shooter only to need to push it forward to load another round. I got home and began reading some reviews about it, and I've read nothing but good things. Honestly - I can't find a bad review of the shotgun.

Does anyone have any experience with it? It appears to be based off the 1300 design (which is probably why I prefer the size & feel - it's what I'm used to). I'm saving up my Cabela's 'points' on my credit card and I'm about half way there. I'm almost sold on this thing.

I also saw this item available. It has the field barrel and a shorter home defense barrel for a $100 premium over a single barrel item. If it's as easy to swap barrels as it is on my 20 ga 1300, then it's a swap that takes less than 2 minutes. Thoughts? Experiences?

I assume that since it kicks the pump rearward it must absorb some of the kick, correct?

I know it MUST be true, I saw it on the internet! :what:...hehehe......
(I DID see it on youtube)

Well DogLegArms and Straightshooter9...I own a Winchester SXP Defender...all i have to say it is amazing!...Yes the recoil pad on the stock absorbs a lot of recoil...a very smooth action and consistent weapon...the recoil pad is such a good addition to the gun (especially a stock one from the company) I would put about 25 rounds at a time and feel the slightest ache on my shoulders. When i shoot my Benelli Supernova tactical, I feel the soreness after about 10 rounds. I can shoot my SXP Defender all day long and i got the SXP as a HD shotgun...i was actually going for a Remington 870 Tactical...but when i felt the way the SXP felt i immediately payed for it once it was in my hands.
