From another board, I'm going to try and order a SXP Trap gun today.

Winchester Repeating Arms SHOT Business report

Winchester Repeating Arms will now offer its SXP pump shotgun in 20-gauge models for 2015. A SXP Field 20-gauge and SXP Field Compact 20-gauge will feature a satin-finished stock and forearm, an alloy receiver in black-matte finish, and an Inflex Technology recoil pad ($429.99). The new SXP Black Shadow in 20 gauge ($399.99) will feature the synthetic stock and forearm with textured gripping surfaces with black-matte finish.

Also new for 2015 are the SXP Ultimate Defender ($499.99) and Marine Defender ($539.99) models in 12 gauge. Both feature black synthetic stocks in matte finish with textured gripping surfaces. A Ghost Ring rear sight is integrated into the receiver-mounted Picatinny rail. Front-mounted Picatinny rails allow mounting optional tactical lights or lasers. A Breacher choke tube is also included. The Ultimate Marine Defender will feature matte hard chrome plating on the barrel, magazine tube, slide arms, and other tactical components.

The new SXP Turkey Hunter model will be offered in 12 and 20 gauge. Both have synthetic stocks and each will feature the new Mossy Oak Break-Up Country Camo pattern and 24-inch barrels with Truglo fiber-optic adjustable sights. The SXP Turkey Hunter 12-gauge ($519.99) has 3 ½-inch chambering; the SXP Turkey Hunter 20-gauge ($549.99) features 3-inch chambers.

The Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo pattern will be available on the SX3 Universal Hunter semi-auto 12- and 20-gauge models ($1,239.99). The camo will also be found on the SX3 NWTF Cantilever Turkey in both the 12-gauge 3 ½-inch and the 20-gauge 3-inch versions ($1,199.99), as well as the 12-gauge 3 ½-inch SX3 Long Beard Turkey with a pistol-grip stock and Invector-Plus Briley Extra–Full Long Beard extended choke tube ($1,269.99). 6.5# trap gun?!?! OUCH. That weight seems more like a field gun. Every trap gun i have seen were typically 8-10 pounds to help in the recoil/swing areas.

Yeah I know the weight is on the light side, but I reload and have been shooting 1 oz and 7/8 oz for quite some time, I'm not recoil shy the price is what caught my eye, the Remington version is twice that, did check for a used 870 trap gun but prices are as bad and new.
If they hadn't closed down my local shotgun range, used to shoot skeet, 5 stand and sporting clays there but now the closest shotgun range is trap only. I'd like to shoot something closer to the house reason I'm looking for one.
The original post has nothing to do with trap other than the fact Winchester makes a SXP trap gun or at least sort of one. Just some news from the Shot Show I thought some might find interesting.

Thanks for the link, I'm way south but didn't know the trap place has added 5 stand, the other two are private clubs.
One of the places I shoot isn't listed its trap only right now but 5 stand is in the works. Its also rifle and pistol ranges on the property.

Your money would be better spent on a Remington Wingmaster with a target contour barrel. You can pick up an old Wingmaster in good condition for around $250. You will spend another $200 on a target contour barrel.

Really if you are going to shoot trap with a pump your money would be best spent on a custom mossberg. Have an 835 barrel fitted to a 500. You will have a perfect back bore instead of praying a machinist gets it right. If you watch Jerry Miculek's videos he shoots a 500 with a bright green stock. That is the rig jerry is shooting is a 500 frame with an 835 barrel fitted to it.

Where are you located?

Just south of Chula Vista.

I have a Remington 11-87 Sporting Clays gun, light contour etc.

Still kick myself I sold a Mossberg Trap gun to a member here when they closed Miramar down. Now all I have is a picture of it.

Google Lemon Grove Rod and Gun club. They're located in Alpine.
We have 5 Stand every Tuesday and Sporting Clays on the last Sunday every month. There's also the Friday night Pot Shoot. All those are open to the public. There's also a few other shotgun events open to you, just check the main page.

If anytime you want to go privately PM me. I'll take you as my guest.

You also might want to check South Bay Rod & Gun.

Field Tester thanks I really appreciate that. I do belong to SBRG but I think so far just trap but skeet soon. I saw a article in the U-T today that P2K has added skeet along with trap and 5 Stand.
I'll keep the offer in mind for the range invite.
Thanks Again!

If you're willing to drive to P2K you might as well drive the extra 5 min to LGRG since they have what you're looking for. Also our range is much larger than P2K and we spread our 5 Stand and Sporting Clays out a bit. I think we're also cheaper, not sure on that though.

NP, my offer stands. I love making new shooting buddies.

Now I'll need to get the shotguns out of the back of the safe, brush the dust off and clean and lube, haven't shot one since San Diego Shotgun Sports (Miramar) was closed. Been punching holes in paper at SBRG.

From what I understand that was quite a while ago.
Everyone that I have ever talked to that shot there said they absolutely loved it and were quite disappointed when it shut down.

Slowly backing away from the SXP trap gun, going to check a couple of the auction sites and ask one of the FFL guys in Chula what they charge to accept one and DROS it.

Mitlov

Yes, I definitely like the price of the SXP Trap compared to the Model 101 Trap!

I have to agree its a little light but three or four rounds how bad can it be? I do shoot with a old Bob Allen vest has a light pad and so does the shotgun. If not this then maybe a Browning BPS trap model.

The Browning BPS has the weight to make a respectable trap gun. I put the Trap model's buttstock on my BPS Hunter and it works great. The Winchester is still a couple hundred less though. But the BPS Trap is a great trap gun for well under a thousand.

Been in contact with a LGS and his price is G2G with me for a new BPS Trapgun, need to swing by and fill out the paper work and pay for it.

Congrats! You are going to love it. The BPS doesn't have the market share of the 870 or 590, but it's a SUPERB pump in my opinion, particularly on the trap range where its weight works for it instead of against it. I love mine.

Guns on order swung by and paid for it. Should be here in a couple of days. BUT I have to wait ten days here in CA before I can pick it up.
