A while back I read an article online about a guy who worked for a firearms company. He was driving somewhere with his wife and also had in the car an automatic rifle. I think it was a testing model or some such. There was an incident leading to a car chase and then to him using the rifle to kill one of his assailants. It then continued with his resulting legal difficulties.

If anyone has a link to this story, I'd appreciate it. I can't remember the specifics, so google is giving me way too many results.

Don't recall too many specifics. I THINK the gentleman in question was an employee of Ruger, and had one of the full-auto Rugers in his vehicle (quite legally); Massad Ayoob published an account of the incident in a regular column of one of the firearm-related magazines (don't recall which one; don't read them anymore) some time ago.

Sorry I can't help more.

I read that story in Unintended Consequences. John Ross told it as an H&K employee who had a select fire mini14 for testing an evaluation when he was followed to their Virginia office by a couple of gun wielding nutjobs.

I never looked for an actual incident.

Ayoob covers it in one of his books. The details sound right, H&K employee with a AC223 for evaluation is chased by a couple of 1% biker types with an eye toward mayhem and robbery. He used a full auto in self defense. IIRC it cost him a bundle in defense money on a lwyer as well. H&K basically washed their hands of him.

I'll see if I can find the book where it is detailed.

Well, I certainly hope, that Jack Robbin (the DA) was kicked out of the DA office after the trail.
When I got my Glock 18 a friend of mine who is a State Trooper asked me, if I would CCW the G18.
I told him right off no and that I never would do this!
Even if you shoot BinLaden who tried to blow up a School bus, you would be nailed to the cross for the "evel machine gun" by the anti gun people!

I appreciate the credit, but you didn't read about this incident in my book, as this is the first I've ever heard of it.

Interesting read. I find it astonishing that the prosecutor would try to charge Gary with murder, given the circumstances.

Serveral years ago a H&K employee used a full auto mini 14 to defend his life in the H&K parking lot. He had YEARS of leagle battles and large leagle costs. He ended up losing his job everything went to heck for him. All cause he used a "machine gun" to defend himself instead of a "normal" rifle.

I say that instead of getting rid of the GCA of 68, we make it a law that you should be able to defend yourself with whatever you want without fear of getting Nifonged'.

It was an HK employee (very high up, like a VP if I remember correctly), it's told by Massad Ayoob and the best part is?

HK walked away from the guy
didn't defend him, didn't help at all and basically "laid him off"

HK, because you suck, and we hate you.

I've always wanted an H&K USP in .40 - always.

But if the above is true then not any more - ever.

found it

http://www.davehayes.org/2006/02/10/the-gary-fadden-incident

the whole entire story is there.

it's a good reading
“‘H&K protected me,” says Gary. “They picked up the tab for about half of my legal bills, and got all the publicity for it, until I quit a few years later. Florian Deltgen (at that time CEO at HK) told me after an argument with the vice president that one or the other of us probably had to go, and the vice president wasn’t going anywhere. I accepted a job offer from Beretta USA and then resigned from H&K. Deltgen stuck me with the remaining bill, which I paid off at 10% interest.” The bill had amounted to more than $45,000. Gary was 34 years old before he had paid everything back.

Dr. Deltgen is no longer with Heckler and Koch.

So I was a bit wrong, I take it back, but there's the quote.

Amazing story would make a great movie IMO.

As for:

Papa Zoot-I think he is in jail

The Prosecutor-Dis-barred forever-I hope

The HK CEO-Doesnt have that job any more.

Wow HK helped him.
