Does anyone know where I can get a complete lower for an AR-15?

I know of a website that sells complete uppers for less than $500. I want an AR-15, but a complete rifle runs $1100 where I live in Michigan, so building would be a lot cheaper. I want a lower that is either inexpensive, includes all the parts, or already assembled, just needing to be joined with an upper. If I need an FFL to order a complete lower, there is someone I can turn to, so that's not a problem. I would really like an AR-15 with the standard 20in barrel and all, not looking for anything to exotic. Also, the upper I'm looking at is an M16A2 (semi-auto). Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Got to blow that refund in Januray somehow!

- Try gunbroker.com for starters.
- gunsamerica.com
- Check the classifieds here on THR also.
- Look for a gun show in your neck of the woods.

The lower is the bit on an AR that needs an FFL to xfer it for you, but it sounds like you have that covered.

Get a stripped lower and save $$

I bought a stripped Bushie lower for around $150 from my local gun store and a parts kit from Model 1 Sales.

The lower is definitely the FFL component of the AR.

You should be able to put together a basic A-2 model for under $700.

The level of skill to assemble an AR lower is nothing, compared to assembling and upper with all the darn springs and detent pins that fly across the kitchen when they inevitably slip.

One last reminder. If you use any M-16 fire control components, trigger, bolt carrier, selector, etc., in assembling an AR, it may be considered a "machine gun" by the BATF folks. They have zero sense of humor about that sort of thing.

The AR15.com site is pretty helpful on the different kits and their plusses and minuses.

Stag.Bushmaster or RockRiver-

Try this guy- Tom Mooney, in Austin and is a stand up guy. Advertises on AR15.com with great feedback. I stake my word on him being safe and stand up.

great prices on Aimpoint and Eoech too!
Tell him the guy with the Molon Labe stickers sent you!

Last time I looked it was actually cheaper to buy a stripped lower and a complete kit which includes an assembled upper and a lower parts kit. Worth looking into.

Let's please stop spreading this rumor, as it pertains to M16 Bolt Carriers.

ATF Tech Branch has issued letter stating that it's not a problem to use these parts, and Colt is shipping them in some models as well.

An M16 Bolt Carrier does NOT make an AR15 a machinegun, even in the somewhat wacky eyes of the ATF.
