My buddy has a DPMS ar-10 style 308 (LR-308T). His dad decided to try to remove the front sight and somehow ended up drilling a whole right through the barrel (dont ask :banghead:)

Anyway, my buddy called DPMS about a replacement barrel and they stated that they are backordered for quite a long time.

Does anyone know how makes an aftermarket barrel for this type of DPMS rifle who might have something in stock? He has a 16" now, but would prefer and 18" if possible, however he will take what he can get as long as its under 24". He really wants something that is designed to handle 7.62x51 NATO pressures.

Thanks for any help!

Ya, they do, but not barrels from what I saw. I checked midway, brownells, natchezss and the only barrel I saw was a 24" at midway.

Last time I checked those were significantly lower than .308 Winchester pressures (per SAAMI). Anyway, while they are technically different cartridges, interchangeability is about 99.9%.

I would suggest he buy a complete upper wherever he can find one, then look at getting his current upper re-barreled. And hopefully get his dad to pay for all of it.

If the hole is not too far back, couldn't you just have a gunsmith cut an inch or so off the barrel and re-crown? Although, if he really wants longer, that will not help of course.

AR10 style rifle, the sight would likely be several inches back from the tip of the barrel. Out of curiosity, what was he doing with a drill???

I asked my buddy why his dad was using a drill and he said "dont ask, Im pissed off enough about it and dont want to discuss it" lol.

But yes the drill hole is several inches back where the fixed site is. His dad wont pay for a new upper, just the barrel. But it may come down to the point where an upper is the only thing available.

If you can't find one, Cut a little off the end, and if it is too short permenantly attach a flash supressor to make 16".
