Ahh, yes! There is nothing prettier than a nickel 19 or 15 w/ a 4"bbl, or SAA w/ a 4 3/4"or 5 1/2"bbl......or a nickel 1911 in.38Super for that matter, all the above with suitable grips of course.
I really prefer stainless, but yeah, it fights corrosion. It will wear in a holster, though, if carried a lot. Mine's an outdoor carry and it gets toted in a flap holster. So far, so good. The best thing about that revolver, though, is its accuracy, not its finish.
I had one old S&W 38 topbreak many years ago that was nickel, but gave it to my brother on his birthday because he liked it and I didn't. The older ones seem to flake and it did not appeal to me. Perhaps some of the newer ones are better done through electrolysis now.
Not crazy about the high polished nickel guns, I've had a couple and like SS a lot better. I have two "satin" nickel guns now, and I like them well enough to keep them.
I like them when they're complete, but think it looks horrible when the finish flakes. Not sure why - it doesn't bother me when blue wears off, but it looks worse to me when nickel finish wears. Maybe its just more noticeable on the bright finish. I don't own any for fear that the finish will flake.
