... it is in which, at the beginning, Clint Eastwood is sitting in his hotel room with his Colt percussion revolver disassembled for cleaning while the bad guy(s) is (are) sneaking up to do him in? IIRC he hears something, hurriedly reassembles the gun, and successfully terminates the BG with extreme prejudice (which, of course, had to work out because he was the star of the film).

I know it was one of the early spaghetti westerns, but I don't remember which.

It is not the beginning of the movie. The movie is The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. He hears the spurs of the guys sneaking towards his room, and kills them, but he doesn't hear Tuco sneaking in the window behind him. Tuco says something like, "There are two kinds of... (spurs?). Those that come up the stairs (crosses himself) and those that come by the window." Tuco then makes him throw a noose over the rafters and put his neck in it... and I'm not going to tell you what happens next.

Heh, I love those movies. I force the wife to watch them on the "it's good for your soul" platform. (Don't worry ladies, she gets her HGTV time)

I watch HGTV,Trading Spaces, etc. with my wife all the time; She's not much into my kind of movies, though she did watch several episopes of BoB and some of Over There with me, and our older son.(12) I mostly watch the home shows with her so when she does a 'room makeover' I have some input and aren't totally shocked.;)

I found all those old Clint Eastwood movies on DVD and have shared them with my 9 and 10 year old son who love'em. The wife... not so much!

Eli Wallach

Belated Academy Award scene for Eli Wallach; Tuco Ramirez:
His first turn in for reward by "The Good." After spitting in Eastwood's face, he is dumped on the jail house porch, Eastwood goes in to claim the money and the Sheriff comes out with a wanted poster in his hand to verify the capture.
"Who the hell is this? One bastard goes in and another bastard comes out!"
Then the sheriff compares the picture with Tucos' face. "You can't even read, he is told."

I had to laugh. It was a memorable portrayal.

Lee Van Cleef is also deserving of mention, as the "Bad." Those eyes of his and that eagle nose. Great.
