Does anyone still find the SA Autos (Browning, Colt, etc.) to be the MOST effective?

There has been a plethora of trigger configurations that have seemingly left the likes of the venerable Colt .45 and Browning Hi-Power to become the "old-timers" of the lot. Personally - I find that my Browning Hi-Power, properly holstered and in "condition-one" is a most proficient and capable weapon system - DA, DA-SA, etc. just don't do it for me - I love the consistent, albeit light, trigger pull of my SAO sidearm - and have become so accustomed to the profile and ease of aim with this sidearm that I wouldn't trade it for all the Glocks, SIGs, H-K's or whatever in the world! I just wanna hear from folks that still find these weapons as "cutting edge" as any of the newer configurations!!

You betcha!

Thats only one of the reasons 1911's continue to be the guns to beat in high level pistol competation of all kinds.

The answer is simple. Once you reach a level of competence and can handle them safely, a SA auto eliminates all those idiot-proof safety features that otherwise add difficulty in the handling of a firearm. A single action auto is simple; short, crisp breaking trigger pull, fewer operating parts, and a design from a simpler time, when guns were just supposed to go bang and hit the target. A DA trigger pull, spongy, "safe action", safeties in the wrong places, large, poorly designed grips (on some), and other goofy features (squeeze cocker?), etc, take away from a simple firing sequence, and hinder follow up shots, also. A SA auto is hard to beat.

I use sevral 1911's in competition and enjoy their light crisp triggers. I also shoot a Glock and a S&W M&P in competition.
For defensice purposes I do not want a firearm with either an external hammer or safeties thus I prefer the S&W 99, S&W M&P, Glock or Kahr. My all time favorite is the Kahr PM-9 in a pocket holster.

SD weaponry is a very personal thing, and I have no qualms with anyone carrying a SAO pistol provided he or she is properly schooled and proficient with it. I suspect there are plenty of folks carrying SA pistol that are not going to have their condition one weapon go bang when they most need it to because they didn't sufficiently train.

I like DA, but not because I'm afraid of carrying cocked and locked or anything like that. I just like the idea that pulling the trigger = BANG! with nothing else to have to train to.

That said, I own and shoot four DA/SA guns, nearly always in SA, and a CZ-75B SA. I like them a lot and shoot them pretty well. I could carry any of them for day-to-day SD--I usually don't.

But that's just me.

I love my 1911s. (I have three. Colts.)

But my primary carry is a DAK SAS Sig. Next is a Glock 19.

I'm in the habit of having a weapon which I can simply draw and squeeze the trigger.

I also sometimes carry one of two S&W models 19s (no dash and dash '1'). Same concept.
