I was looking for a new colt m4 on gunsamerica.com and I couldnt find any. Is colt making any new ones after the ban?

If not what is the best clone Armalite or bushmaster? I would appricate any info on the best one. I have heard not so great things about bushmaster .....thanks eveyrone

Yes and No.

They are making M4s, just as they have all along for LEO and military contracts.

The make a civy version in AWB form with no flash hider, no folding stock, and non-standard pin sizes in the receiver so you can't swap stuff out.

Do a search on here for some discussions about this. Colt has "encouraged" their dealers not to sell the LEO versions to us regular folk even now that the ban has been lifted. Some dealers are just ignoring them and giving the customer what they want.

Wildalaska just did a group buy on here for High Roaders. You might send him a PM and see if he has any more available.

Yea Colt is still stuck in that nothing for you peon mode.

While I am here I will vouche for Steyr. He is one of the good guys .

**** Colt.

Support companies who stand by firearms owners and don't abandon the customers who are loyal to them to please some pitiful, forgetful beauracrat.

Go to http://AR15.com and sign in (if you're not a member, become one), then send him a board IM. I don't have any other contact information. His sigline says he's selling them in the AR15.com Equipment Exchange, so you might check there, too.

His e-mail address is listed there, but I won't post it here since I don't like spam, I assume he doesn't, and I don't want to (even remotely) contribute to it, even in concept.

Both Armalite and Bushmaster are at the High end of the AR scale. I'm not much of an AR master, but anything from Armalite, Bushmaster, Rock River Arms (very good quality), or Olympic is going to be damned good and not give you much of a hassle.

One of the problems I have been told about with Colt's is that they use many propriatery parts that force you to only use COly parts.

Yes, Colt makes good guns, but like I said earlier, there are other companies that make equally high quality guns but actually stick by firearms owners.

The only differences between the M4 and Colt 6920 is select fire and a "real" M4 has a 14.5" barrel. Colt also makes a 6400C which is their "post ban" M4 clone with a somewhat cheesy flash hider and fixed stock, but does have a chrome lined 1/7 twist barrel, M4 feed ramp cuts, and Colt QC.

I keep hearing about Colt "QC"

That would be the same high level of QC they have had on their 1911's for the last 30 years?

Like ejectors that they cant seem to stake in so the back leg doesnt come loose, or the front sights that they cant seem to stake on so they dont shoot loose?, Or would it be that great slide to frame fit that rattles, or perhaps its those razor sharp edges, they are unable to round off.

But then 1911's are a new specialty item for them right?????:barf: :scrutiny:

Actually, IMO Colt's QA/QC for their AR line is pretty stringent, certainly moreso than other manufacturers. Good info on the subject is available on www.tacticalforums.com under the thread "AR-15 deficiencies". The neutered post-ban Match Target 6400 is a better weapon, in my experience, than similar offerings from Bushmaster and Armalite and within $50 of the price of the competition. I can't speak of the products of Rock River Arms, DPMS, Olympic Arms, et al, but I have owned the Bushie and Armalite versions and they were not built to the standards of the Colt. The only proprietary parts on the Colt M4 are the oversize trigger pins, and every major parts manufacturer makes them (including Bushmaster) so availability isn't a concern at all. Colt also MP tests all their barrels and bolts (unlike the others) so the likelihood of a parts failure is less, IMO. The great thing is that, for typical range use and paper punching, you can't really go wrong with an AR from any of the "name-brand" manufacturers. Buy the one you want, then shoot, shoot, shoot!

so basically what I need to look for is a leo m4 that a dealer is now willing to sell? Anymore info on online dealers that are selling them? thanks

Ditto what Vanfunk said - only Colt Magnafluxes their barrels and proof tests the bolts and barrels. Their quality is more consistent than the others because it is required and specified by their Gov't contract to supply M4's (bushmaster doesn't parkarize under their front sight base for instance, which is not to milspec. They still make a good AR, but it doesn't have to meet the std's Colt does). Colt's 1911's don't have to pass any Gov't QC standards, so they kind of suck. I had a Colt 1911, which I ultimately sold for a Kimber. I am in the market for a 9mm carbine though, and am waiting for a Colt 6450 to arrive at my FFL.

Wildalaska who posted above can get Colt 6920's IIRC.

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahah.......

Bet I could dig up a lot of guys on this Board who would dispute that

Didn't mean to start a war! My stainless series 80 Colt had discernable play between slide and frame, between the barrel and slide, wasn't as accurate as my Kimber, for the same money didn't come with as nice a set of sights, as nice a trigger pull, commander hammer, fit and finish, and was not as accurate. Just my experience on a Colt 1911 from 6 years ago. I understand their brand new ones have improved. No insults intended

Honestly, if Colt would just wise up they might have a chance at turning their slide into oblivion around. They complain about not having money to develop new products and struggling with insolvency. Yet when they have an opportunity to sell something they already make in a new and vastly larger marketplace, they balk. There is an easy formula for financial success its: Give People What They Want.

Oh and Remington, who is doing the same thing with their 870 police sales, you do it too.

Colt's QA/QC for their government AR line is more stringent than other manufacturers. You can see definite cost cutting and less stringent QC in some of their civilian offerings, though the LE6920 and 6400 models seem to still be getting the same attention that the military/LE lines do.

(bushmaster doesn't parkarize under their front sight base for instance, which is not to milspec. They still make a good AR, but it doesn't have to meet the std's Colt does). Colt's 1911's don't have to pass any Gov't QC standards, so they kind of suck.

Ive never been able to look UNDER my front sight/gasblock on my Bushmaster xm-15, :p since it seems to be on their pretty tight, pinned and all, I doubt I ever will. The milspec maganese phosphate finish has held up well, and looks good to me. so this means they parkerize it after the sight is on so it matches, or do they put tape around the barrel to keep the parkerizing off.!!!!?????

Companies either have a quality process or they dont, quality is something that has to pervade the entire organization if you care about, or do quality work.

Hmm.

A lot of guys on here have gone on and on about how great the M4 carbine is, how it's the best thing since sliced bread, how it's the epitome of small arms design, how Eugene Stoner was a shining, gleaming man-god, and, by golly, how if our troops in WWII had had M4s we'd have whipped the Nazis in two years tops.

Well, guess what? All of those "reliable", "battle proven", M4 carbines that the military uses are made by Colt. Each and every one of them.

So if Colt QC sucks, then the military's M4s suck, 'cause they all have a horsey on 'em.

:neener:

FWIW, my NRM Gov't Model is one of the nicest "1911" types I've seen. It far outclassed the Springfield "Mil-Spec" sitting on the shelf next to it.
