Does MN have RECIPROCITY w/ SD for CCW?

Does the state of South Dakota have reciprocity with Minnesota? I am from MN and have a concealed Carry permit and want to carry in South Dakota. I know it had it under the old CCW law, but does it have now under the new law???

www.packing.org is your friend. They are very helpful for these sorts of questions. A MN license is recognized in SD, but they do not have reciprocity. Due to the very leftist politicians in MN state government they only have reciprocity with about 4 states because of strict rules.

A: Reciprocity means they have an agreement to honor each other's permits/license.

Honoring means that one state decides to honor another's without an agreement. Michigan honors all other states permits but also signs reciprocity agreements with some states so their residents can legally carry in that state.

Any valid permit to carry a concealed pistol, issued to a nonresident of South Dakota, is valid in South Dakota according to the terms of its issuance in the state of its issue, but only to the extent that the terms of issuance comply with any appropriate South Dakota statute or promulgated rule. However, if the holder of such a nonresident permit to carry a concealed pistol becomes, at any time, a legal resident of South Dakota, the provisions of this section no longer apply.

No, you're right. South Dakota recogizes ALL state's permits. Just got the law changed this past summer.

No, you don't. You have a "Permit to Carry a Pistol". I apologize for being a technical bastage but, really, that's what you have. Minnesota doesn't care *how* you carry, only that you have a permit to do so. Read the words on the permit.

Florida, though, has a "Concealed" license for weapons. Other states probably have the same.

I think your wrong you can carry openly in MN you do not need to conceal it.It is a carry permit not a conceal carry permit law.Read your permit.

Sorry grizz, but you are mistaken. MN grants it's citizens a permit to carry a pistol. It does not specify that you must carry concealed. I live in Minneapolis and carry openly often and have not had any LEO, of the 5 or so I have encountered, attempt to confiscate my gun. So please rest assured, open carry in MN is completely legal.

usmarine, you may carry legally in SD on your MN permit to carry as long as you follow all of the applicable SD laws on carrying a gun. Open carry may not be allowed there; I do not know.
