Does Remington make a lever action?

I'm back home on pre-deployment leave, and my Mama-in-Law has requested my help in buying a rifle for her hubby's birthday. Apparently he's requested (very specifically) a "Remington 30-30."

Now, as far as I know Remington doesn't currently make a lever action. I'd assume he said Remington just because he's in love w/ the 870, but just wanted to check. Do they make a lever 30-30?

Remington has never made a levergun, and only a few .30-30s. The one model that comes to mind is the M788 bolt action.

AAMOF, back in the early 20th Century Remington introduced the .30 Remington, a rimless cartridge for use in their semiauto and slide action rifles, to compete with the .30-30 Winchesters and Marlins. No rifles have been chambered in .30 Remington in decades.

Remington has never made a levergun

This statement intrigued me enough to go check my Standard Catalog of Firearms (7th Edition), and it turns out that they did make a Model 76 lever-action 22LR from 1962-1964. But that's it - no centerfire lever guns, period.

Repeater...the Nylon 76 was the only lever action repeater they ever made. Some of the old single shots had levers. Picky, but true.

The Nylon 76 must have 100+ parts. I gave my uncle one and he took it apart to clean it. Uh-oh, and many thanks to Harley Nolden for the schematic.

The 788 Remington is the only .30-30 I've heard of Remington making. A couple of my online buddies on another board have 'em, but they're not common around here, much as I wish I could find one. I'm thinking the reason they don't make a crankbolt in .30-30 is us handloaders might use spitzer bullets and one might "accidently" find it's way into a tubular magazine.

Savage made the bolt-action Model 340 in .30-30 for many years, Remington made the 788 in .30-30, and Winchester even made the Model 54 in .30-30. While the Remington and Winchester bolt guns are getting scarce, you can still find the Savage 340 if you look close enough. Damn fine gun, too. I loaded spitzers for mine, it was an excellent-shooting rifle, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, before the ex-wife got it in the divorce proceedings. Someday I'll find another one.

When I got divorced, I made it exceedingly clear that my guns were not going with the ex-wife, to the extent that I gave up everything that we had accumulated together save my clothes, my TV and my comic book collection, and my Marine Corps memorabilia and souvenirs, all of which I owned previous to the marriage. Luckily for me, she decided that I was being fair and let me keep all of my guns. Also, luckily for me, had she decided to be a jerk about it, I have a rich friend who was on deck to buy all my guns at reasonable market value, the money for which I could have given her, to both her and her lawyers satistfaction. My same rich friend was willing to give me full access to my (his?) guns all while letting me repay him as I could. Luckily, it never got to that, but I was glad I had an option at least. By the way, I consulted my lawyer about this, and he said that that was perfectly legal to do, as long as I actually sold them for "reasonable market value", so for all you fellows (and ladies, for that matter) that might be facing this, it might be an option.

I survived ok.

Out of the 100+ pieces in the collection, the only real contentions she had were for an IPSC-modded Norinco 1911A1, a 1969-vintage Browning BAR, and that Savage 340. Choosing my battles carefully, she got the 1911A1 and the Savage 340. I still have the Browning BAR and the rest of the collection.

Find a remington 30-06 for the guy, she possibly "misunderstood" him, much the same way all women chronically/habitually rephrase sentences for us fellas'. :banghead: My little woman has a very through habit of messin'-up what I ask for when christmas rolls around, I got a $550 remote controlled airplane for christmas last year, and I swear I asked for a blackwing in 20ga, even left every catalogue advertising the things lying around~just in case. BUT- I did get the most kick-A shooting rest for my birthday; very possibly because I have yet to open the R/C airplane. I still think you might need to ask your daddy-in-law Exactly what it is he desires. BTW-TimboKhan, I think I have made it very clear what I'll give up first- the bullets
