I just thought this was funny... I saw this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNJ_N0PGeh8

It says the 11-year-old shot the pig 8 times with a .50 cal. revolver, so I went over to monsterpig.com to check it out and see if this kid was actually handling a S&W 500 Mag or what. I clicked on the "Click Here To Get Details On The Gun" link, and the web page didn't respond. I figured, "Well, monsterpig.com must be getting a lot of hits and this is just a little site that these guys setup to show off," but then I looked at the link and it was actually redirecting to Smith & Wesson's main website.

I've noticed that in the past. Most of the time I go to S&W's site it's ridiculously slow and I'll have to click on things several times before it even tries to load. It just seems particularly sad that "monsterpig.com" has a more reliable site than Smith & Wesson.

It appears Smith and Wesson uses one of IBM's services hosting. I would guess they just need more bandwidth/hardware.

OK, I didn't REALLY think they were using free hosting... You and your high-tech whois search. :)

Netcraft, actually. Less clicks for me. ;) I have noticed their site being slow many times, I always assumed they were running it in-house and didn't have sufficient resources.

I always find it interesting to note the different levels of web presence the different arms makers have. Some have very slick sites and some appeared to be designed by Frontpage 97.

It doesn't seem to be directly linked to company size either.

look at it this way, ways easier to look through, a 10 page photo album or 3,000 photos in a foot locker?

The smith and wesson site, and many like it, can qualify as the unorganized foot locker holding 3,000 photos. With all the pointless content, like flash ads, stupid banners, and links to videos, it takes far more time to delve through the site to the stuff you want.
In the paper today they had a photo of the kid. Strangely it looks like they have the kid standing 10 feet behind the carcass. And does smith and wesson put a titanium cylinder on the 500 magnum with the changeable muzzle break?

But I'd still rather deal with an unorganized locker of 3,000 photos than navigate all the ridiulous Flash content on springfield-armory.com.

+1

I hate that new crap they have up there, I used to be able to browse the site with my PDA at work, no longer....
