I have a Taurus pt145 3rd generation that I absolutely love. I probably carried it every day for the last 8 years of my life.

It's always fired perfectly I've never had any issues with it. It's my summer gun because the 1911 is just too heavy to carry with where I live.

I started looking at the new Springfield XDS in 45 which is one sweet looking gun.

I'm not sure if it makes sense going through selling the Taurus and coming up with the remainder of the money for the Springfield especially if the Taurus is working just fine. What would you do?

Buy the XDS, keep the Taurus. Carry each when you feel like carrying them.

Options are always nice, and you're never gonna hear the term "too many guns" out of any of us :D

IF its down to sell a known quantity that you are ok with, shoot well, and trust to buy an unknown quantity that you'd have to train up on.. I dont see how its even a question. If its one or the other, go with what you know.

I like how this guy thinks!

...But scythefwd makes a very good point if you can't swing the cost of a new pistol without selling one.
Have you even fired an XDS?
Also a very good point. As much as I love my old XD, I found that I just couldn't shoot my friend's XDS very well. And, for that reason, I bought a Shield.

If I had a small poly framed carry gun in 45 that I trusted and shot well, the last thing I would buy is.... another small poly framed carry gun in 45.

Too many other interesting guns out there to get another of the same thing.

I have the 3rd generation PT-111... shoot it well, like it for carry, and trust it... all my handgun money has gone towards steel framed SAO JMB classics since.

Absolutely nothing.

Sounds just like a friend of mine who also has been carrying a PT145 for the last eight or nine years. Works fine, very reliable, and very durable.

If the XDs is something that interests you then by all means try one out. But I wouldn't sell or trade in the PT145 just to get a new gun.

I tend to buy guns when I have extra cash. Usually after working a lot of overtime or with tax refund money. I don't like the idea of selling a known quantity that works well to get something else. If I get something & it works well I might sell what I had before later but I like to check the new out first. Usually when I sell a gun at some point I wind up regretting it.

In other words I agree with scythefwd.

I make it a habit to avoid fixin what ain't broke to begin with.

You guys are totally right. I'm glad I asked tho cuz it help reinforce my decision. I'll definitely keep the taurus and then maybe in the next couple years looking getting the XD added to the collection. thanks again

Years? Wow in a couple of years time I would need a wheelbarrow to haul the new acquisitions. Gun owners U.S. Constitution requirement: Never Sell A Firearm! (Trades are ok) :)

The day I sold my gen 3 PT145 was a pretty good day. It's replacement that day I'm less than enthused with SR45, but I soon found a p220 that I do love.

You'll love the XDS in 45, I've put several hundred downrange using a friends pistol. If not for the grip safety I'd seriously consider buying one.

I agree with most of the responses, if you have a Taurus that works well and you shoot well, hang on to it. When your finances allow, go ahead and get something else you want to try out. I've kicked myself the butt for every gun I sold to finance a new purchase, except for an old Llama IX 45. That one was not so much and I never shot it well anyway. I sold a Taurus TCP that worked perfect, when I realized that the tcp was my preferred carry weapon and bought another, the new one wound up choking and going back to Taurus

Why sell the Taurus if you like it? If you try an XDs and ke it, buy one. Never sell a gun to buy a gun. Save a little longer...
