"Does your DOD activity's PX, NEX or BX sell firearms" is the title of a very old thread on THR. But there is new news on that front. The AAFES PX at Joint Base Langley/Eustis, Newport News, VA is in the process of setting up a gun counter in the main exchange, and it should be stocked by the end of JUL 13. They will handle all manner of hand and long guns. Also, the MCX at USMC Camp Allen, Norfolk, VA continues to sell firearms, and will special order any firearm that their distributors normally handle.

NAS Pensacola Main is the only military post I know of that sells firearms. Being stationed at almost every single Army installation east of the Mississippi, I can't think of any that sell firearms. Unless alot has changed since the Ft Hood shooting.

To clarify what was questioned in the original 2004 thread, the authority for DoD exchange sales of firearms is stated in Enclosure (3) of the current DoD Instruction 1330.21 (Subject: Armed Services Exchange Regulations):

“E3.3.5. Firearms and ammunition are authorized exchange sale items. Firearms shall be sold in compliance with Federal laws and regulations. Overseas activities shall conform to all applicable Status of Forces Agreements (SOFA) requirements, as well as any requirements imposed by bilateral agreements between the United States and the host nation.”

not to the best of my knowledge at NSB Kings Bay. I am a civilian contractor so no BX access, but with how the Navy runs things I don't see firearms being sold here.

Wright-Patterson AFB, OH BX and Fort Knox, KY PX both sell firearms and ammunition.

The Marine Corps Exchange at Camp Allen (more or less co-located at NSA/NOB Norfolk) has a gun counter. I purchased a rifle there in 2010. They carry accessories but no ammo I've ever seen.

They didn't while I was there back in '09. Granted it was only 1 month but I did buy a couple things from the NEX while I was there.

While I don't live near it anymore, Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX has been selling firearms for at least a year, maybe two. It is a new addition when they remodeled the entire PX as well as when they relocated the commissary.

The Luke AFB BX does.

Also, Elmendorf does as well. Will post about Fairchild AFB in a week or so as I head up there.

FT. Leavenworth, KS PX sells guns and ammo (has for over a year), Brunner Range (Skeet & Trap Club) also sells guns, ammo, and reloading supplies.

I work in a VA and have AAFES ordering privileges through our shoppette. Looked through catalogues, no gun stuff though.

JRB Carswell (Ft. Worth, TX)
As noted in post 12, yes...but it only opened about a year ago.
Quite a surprise, and quite a welcome one.

Quantico MCX has for a long time ... including ammo. Good selection of handguns and ARs. AR's were absent for awhile but are back in stock. You can also special order. Seems to do good business.

Every military installation I've been stationed at in the last five years has sold firearms. I've seen zero indications of reduced availability of lawfully purchased firearms on any bases since the Ft. Hood shooting.

I'm not sure how the poster above brought these two issues together...they are completely unrelated.

Their prices on guns and ammo are usually pretty decent.

The lawn and garden section, near Dunkin Donuts and Clothing and Sales.

Since when? I just left there in February, and I never once saw or heard about firearms sales at NAS or the one by Corry.

Camp Lejeune has as long as I can remember, and I know they still did in February.

Joint Base Lewis McChord has a pretty large gun counter in the Ft Lwis PX and the McChord BX. Ironically you can get a better deal on Sigs or Glocks through their IOP than you can at the PX/BX.

They were rationing ammo the last time I was there.
